Home Credit Philippines highlights women workers

HCPH proudly features the inspiring journeys of three women from its field collections team, whose stories reflect the strength, perseverance, and empowerment that drive Home Credit forward, proving that women can thrive in roles traditionally dominated by men.

Home Credit Philippines (HCPH), the country’s leading consumer finance company, thrives on the strength of its diverse workforce. From back-office support to customer-facing roles across metropolitan and provincial areas, these dedicated employees help deliver accessible and innovative financial solutions, empowering millions of Filipinos to realize the lives they deserve.

At the heart of this workforce is Home Credit’s strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). The company champions gender equality, fostering an environment where everyone—especially women—can succeed and lead. With over 15,000 employees and a nearly equal gender balance of 51:49 female-to-male ratio, Home Credit ensures opportunities are available to all, empowering individuals to grow and contribute meaningfully to the organization.

As the company continues advancing workplace equality and bridging the gender gap in consumer finance, HCPH joins the nation in celebrating National Women’s Month. This year, the company highlights the resilience and dedication of its women in field collections, who navigate this dynamic role with unwavering commitment.

Maria Tizon: Rising above hardships to secure a brighter future

Six years ago, Maria Tizon’s life took an unexpected turn when she lost her husband, leaving her to raise seven children on her own. Determined to provide for them, she joined HCPH as a field officer, drawn by Home Credit’s career growth opportunities and benefits. Through hard work and perseverance, she earned a promotion to field collection supervisor, allowing her to better support her family.

“The biggest reason I joined Home Credit was my children. I wanted to ensure they could finish their education, and now I have one child about to graduate with a degree in Tourism and another in third-year college taking up Civil Engineering,” she proudly shared.

The journey, however, was far from easy. Adjusting to her role as a field collector came with its challenges, but with the support of her colleagues and unwavering faith, she found the strength to push forward.

She also survived a serious accident—an experience that tested her resilience but reaffirmed her trust in God’s guidance. Despite the obstacles, Maria remained steadfast, knowing that her work played a vital role not only in helping clients fulfill their financial commitments but also in securing a better future for her family.

Cherry Bardelas: Proving no job is beyond a woman’s capability

When Ma. Cherry Rose Bardelas applied as a field collector at the height of the pandemic, she knew she was stepping into a male-dominated role. Though hesitant at first, she saw it as an opportunity to challenge herself and grow.

“I wanted a job that would push me to be independent, flexible, and confident. Being a field collector has helped me develop strong communication skills and the ability to adapt. It has also allowed me to inspire other women to take on roles that push us beyond our comfort zones,” she shared.

One of the biggest challenges she faced was earning the trust of customers, who often assumed male collectors were more authoritative.

“Some clients don’t take female collectors seriously, but I’ve learned to be firm yet professional. I listen to their concerns, acknowledge their situation, and stand my ground,” she explained.

Over the years, Cherry sharpened her negotiation skills and learned to navigate difficult situations with patience and professionalism. For her, every successful negotiation is more than just a job well done—it is proof that women can excel in any role, regardless of traditional expectations.

“Women are strong and capable of any job. Every challenge we overcome builds our confidence and resilience. No matter the obstacles, we must stand firm because our work makes a real impact. Our strength inspires change,” she said.

“I wanted to prove to myself that I could thrive in a male-dominated role. Being a collector pushed me to develop the skills and confidence I needed,” she said.

One of the biggest challenges she encountered in the field was overcoming the fear of rejection and earning the trust of customers who initially doubted her capabilities. Some assumed she couldn’t handle the pressures of the job, but she remained focused and persistent. By building rapport and demonstrating professionalism, she gained their respect and trust.

A defining moment in her career came when she successfully resolved a difficult case with a customer who had repeatedly delayed payments. Instead of following the standard approach, Anjanette took the time to understand their situation and worked out a solution.

“When the payment was finally made, I felt a sense of accomplishment—not just for solving the issue, but for handling it with empathy and professionalism. That moment reinforced my belief that I could succeed in this role and empower others to do the same,” she shared.

Now a field supervisor, Anjanette encourages women to break barriers and trust in their abilities. “Never let society’s expectations define what you can achieve. Women are strong and capable, and we have every right to succeed in any field we choose. Believe in yourself, embrace challenges, and keep moving forward,” she concluded.
