In observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month last October, leading Philippine IT solutions provider Yondu launched an extensive, month-long cybersecurity awareness campaign focused on modern threat detection, incident response, and social engineering defense. The campaign reached professionals across banking, government, and enterprise sectors through specialized training programs, technical demonstrations, and expert-led sessions.
The initiative comes at a critical time, as recent high-profile breaches have exposed vulnerabilities in some of the country’s largest organizations.
“Modern businesses need stronger cybersecurity than ever,” notes Dennis Sanchez, Chief Information Security Officer at Yondu. “As organizations handle growing volumes of sensitive information, our managed security services capabilities and understanding of the local threat landscape will help Filipino companies protect themselves against emerging threats.”
To strengthen its own security foundation, Yondu held a series of specialized training sessions tailored to both technical and non-technical employees. Non-tech employees received social engineering training, enabling them to recognize and respond to deceptive cyber tactics like phishing and impersonation. Meanwhile, tech-focused staff participated in advanced workshops on secure coding practices and threat intelligence, ensuring their skills remain at the forefront of modern cybersecurity.
Extending this expertise externally, Yondu CISO spoke at BPI’s Cybersecurity Awareness Event, teaching employees how to identify and prevent phishing, malware, and social engineering attacks.
Among Yondu’s other key programs for October was a Security Operations Center (SOC) immersion with Globe Business, during which industry partners participated in an in-depth discussion on SOC processes and deliverables.
The collaboration with Globe extended to its internal Blue Hat Event, where Yondu’s technical team demonstrated the capabilities of common hacking tools like HackRF, Wifi Pineapple, and Flipper Zero.
The company also participated in MONEYME Financial’s event for Cybersecurity Awareness Month, where Yondu’s team demonstrated AI’s pivotal role in modern cybersecurity, including automated threat detection and intelligent defense systems.
On the public sector front, Yondu CISO Sanchez joined a comprehensive dialogue on how an SOC can help LGUs protect critical data from cyber attacks.
Yondu extended its educational campaign to digital platforms as well through informative social media posts on Facebook and Instagram, as well as releasing new episodes for their ‘y-speak’ Podcast, available on YouTube and Spotify.
In these podcast episodes, CISO Sanchez invited security experts across various tech sectors and organizations to talk about cellular network security, collaborative threat intelligence networks, and the importance of open-source intelligence in modern cybersecurity. Through its SOC demonstrations, industry expert-led workshops, and ongoing education initiatives, Yondu continues to bridge critical knowledge gaps in Philippine cybersecurity. As cyber threats grow more sophisticated and Philippine organizations face increasing risks, initiatives like these are vital to strengthening the country’s digital defenses.
