Majority of PH companies see IT as strategic business lever

IT is now viewed in the Philippines as a strategic enabler to grow business and better connect with customers, according to the EMC Forum survey

Ronnie Latinazo, Country Manager, EMC Philippines: More companies realize that IT is a key strategic enabler for business growth

IT is now viewed in the Philippines as a strategic enabler to grow business and better connect with customers, according to the EMC Forum survey which revealed that 78% of respondents indicated that IT plays a critical role in coping with mega trends of cloud, mobile, social and Big Data.

The survey, conducted among 235 IT decision makers during the EMC “Redefine” Forum held in Manila, Philippines this year, also showed that 64% view mega trends as an opportunity as they expect these next-generation technologies to give organizations a competitive advantage, 67% identified a need for hybrid cloud as a means for greater agility, reduce cost, and security.

“More companies realize that IT is a key strategic enabler for business growth and are open to embracing next generation technologies – including hybrid cloud solutions, to develop new and effective ways to reach consumers and enhance customer service standards to stay competitive and achieve greater efficiency and agility,” said Ronnie Latinazo, Country Manager, EMC Philippines.

The study also looks at the challenges that will affect the future of IT. It was found out that 24% of respondents don’t believe IT has the skills to keep up in the next 1-2 years and 72% say users are bringing more control in IT spending. While 70% believe that future IT department will build its own on-premise cloud facility, 46% believe that mega trends will be a challenge for their organizations over the next few years.

Addressing these issues, EMC Corporation has announced new product releases across its Flash, enterprise storage and Scale-Out NAS portfolios, to help organizations “redefine” what is possible – reduce cost and speed new applications – as they accelerate their journey to the hybrid cloud.

These new EMC product releases include XtremIO, VMAX, Isilon OneFS, and the availability of ViPR 2.0, ViPR SRM 3.5, and the ECS.

Offering new features and configurations, integrations and business programs for EMC XtremIO all-flash arrays, XtremIO 3.0 provides more scale, more capabilities, and more support for consolidated, virtualized, and performance-hungry workloads.

The VMAX family, which transforms VMAX from enterprise storage to an enterprise data service platform, brings new levels of cloud-like agility, efficiency and control within the data center. It enables customers to regain control of where best to run specific workloads, within the data center or in the public cloud. VMAX is the foundation of hybrid cloud as it delivers Storage-as-a-Service.

The upgraded Isilon OneFS, and new platforms that reinforce the industry’s first enterprise-grade scale-out Data Lake, a new feature, which includes support for HDFS, help users advance their ability to ingest, store, protect and manage large volume of unstructured data.

The availability of ViPR 2.0 and ViPR SRM 3.5 helps users build a modern storage infrastructure on commodity platforms while managing any storage infrastructure, from a cluster of two arrays to a hyperscale, multi-Petabyte environment.

The ECS Appliance, a hyperscale storage infrastructure for data center that is powered by ViPR 2.0, redefines storage economics and balance the benefits of the public cloud – cost, simplicity, scalability – with security and control of the private cloud.

“Customers are dealing with the reality and challenges of managing a variety of workloads – while supporting new demands to build new applications, both on-premise and in the public cloud. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Today’s new innovations from EMC deliver customers the foundation needed to manage existing and new application estates and accelerate their journey to the hybrid cloud,” said Latinazo.
