Septuagenarian benefits from ramped-up SIM registration efforts of Smart, TNT and NTC in Mindanao

In collaboration with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Smart and TNT have deployed registration booths in remote communities in the Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, Caraga and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and TNT continue to ramp up its SIM Registration efforts in Mindanao, to encourage more subscribers to register their SIMs.

“Let’s all help stop text scams and register our SIMs now!” encouraged NTC Region 10 Regional Director Ted Buenavista, calling on the public to do their part.

Seventy-year-old Delia Salvador of San Fernando, Bukidnon, a Smart subscriber for more than 20 years, recounted her SIM registration experience:  “I am thankful for the efforts of Smart and the local government. I wouldn’t be able to register my SIM without this initiative because I don’t know how to do it myself,” she said.

Smart, TNT and NTC have teamed up with the local government unit of Padada, Davao del Sur to bring the service closer to hinterland communities.

“We are grateful to NTC and Smart as this is a huge help to our constituents. We really hope that more people will heed our call to register their SIMs as this is for their own protection,” said Kris Aero Guerrero, representative of Padada Municipality.

“Smart’s SIM card registration drive in remote areas is part of the company’s overarching goal to protect more subscribers from SIM-, internet-, and electronic communication-aided crimes,” said Cathy Yang, FVP & Group Head of Corporate Communications at PLDT & Smart.

SIM owners have until April 26, 2023, to register their SIMs before these will be deactivated.  Subscribers are advised to register their SIMS to keep these active and to help fight against scammers and predators online. New and existing Smart Prepaid and TNT subscribers may also visit PLDT and Smart stores and access Smart’s SIM registration portal through smart.com.ph/simreg, while postpaid customers can simply text YES to 5858 to confirm their registration.
