D-Link, one of the world’s biggest suppliers of networking products, has launched the world’s first 11AC portable router – the D-Link DIR-510L Wireless AC750 Portable Router and Charger. It runs on the most recently upgraded 802.11ac networking standard, offering users speeds of up to 433Mbps on the 5GHz band. This means that it is at least 2.5 times faster than the old router running on the previous wireless standard, giving users quicker streaming of movies or tunes. The portable router also packs in various functions such as mobile charger and file sharing capabilities, to enhance the way people connect on-the-move.
Jonathan Quek, product marketing director for D-Link International Pte Ltd, said: “This first ever 11AC portable router is designed to give users faster and lag-free Wi-Fi with a handy gadget that can fit easily into their palms. Measuring a mere 140.0 x 59.0 x 16.0 mm and weighing only 154g (smaller and lighter than a Samsung Note 3), this nifty router is convenient to tote along on business or leisure trips. The device also doubles up as a portable charger and personal cloud storage, making it the perfect on-the-go companion.”
Using the latest 802.11ac wireless standard, the portable router promptly turns any wired or wireless connection into a high-speed Wi-Fi hotspot. Users simply need to plug in an Ethernet cable under the Broadband Router Mode to share a wired connection, a practical option for use in hotels or conference rooms for meetings. For on-the-go use, a 3G or 4G dongle can be attached to share the mobile connection with connected devices with wireless speeds of up to 750Mbps. To support high-speed mobile links, a USB LTE adapter can be connected to bring the speed of latest LTE mobile broadband to non-LTE devices. This Wi-Fi sharing works great for travelling as users can share the Internet access on mobile phones, tablets and laptops with just one connection.
The router comes with two USB ports, and turns any USB storage device into personal cloud storage via mydlink SharePort. As a personal cloud, it is accessible from anywhere, even if you are overseas and the router stays at home. It is a nifty way to add storage to a mobile device running low on space, or simply to bring entertainment along for the whole family on long holidays.
The mydlink SharePort app is a mobile application that turns any USB storage device connected to a compatible D-Link Cloud Router into a private and secure cloud storage. Available for free on Google Play and Apple App Store, the app is also designed with a “Favourites” system that enables one-touch copying onto mobile devices for access to files even without Internet access.
The compact device can also be used as a battery pack for mobile devices, ensuring that one’s smart phone or tablet has enough power to send out that last important message or email. It is runs on a built-in 4000mAh battery, and can also be powered and charged by a wall adapter.
The gadget also allows for a hassle-free set-up process. It comes with a user-friendly interface that stores connection details, so they only need to be entered once, giving users more time to spend on the Internet instead.
