Samsung’s Galaxy S5, new wearables launch in PH

Samsung Electronics announced the fifth generation of the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S5, and two new wearable devices, Gear Fit and Gear 2.

Samsung Electronics has launched in the Philippines the fifth generation of the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy S5, and two new companion wearable devices, Gear Fit and Gear 2.

The Galaxy S5 combines an advanced camera, fast network connectivity, dedicated fitness tools and enhanced device protection features.

The new Galaxy S5 features a 16-megapixel camera with an enhanced menu and user interface. The Galaxy S5 also offers extremely fast autofocus speed up to 0.3 seconds and the advanced High Dynamic Range (HDR), reproduce natural light and color with striking intensity at any circumstances. Also, the new Selective Focus feature allows users to focus on a specific area of an object while simultaneously blurring out the background. With this capability, consumers no longer need a special lens kit to create a shallow depth of field (DOF) effect.

The Galaxy S5 supports the fifth generation Wi-Fi 802.11ac and 2X2 MIMO, and supports a large number of LTE frequency with LTE Category 4 standard. For consumers seeking an even faster connection, the Galaxy S5 now features Download Booster, an innovative Wi-Fi technology for boosting data speed by bonding Wi-Fi and LTE simultaneously.

With the enhanced S Health 3.0, the new Galaxy S5 offers more tools to help people stay fit and well. It provides a comprehensive personal fitness tracker to help users monitor and manage their behavior, along with additional tools including a pedometer, diet and exercise records, and a new, built-in heart rate monitor. Galaxy S5 users can further customize their experience with an enriched third party app ecosystem and the ability to pair with next generation Gear products for real-time fitness coaching.

The Galaxy S5 features a perforated pattern on the back cover creating a modern glam look. Its new sleek, contoured shape comes in an array of vivid colors, including charcoal Black, shimmery White, electric Blue and copper Gold, to complement the style of the individual consumer.

The Galaxy S5 is IP67 dust and water resistant. It also offers a Finger Scanner, providing a secure, biometric screen locking feature and a seamless and safe mobile payment experience to consumers. The Ultra Power Saving Mode turns the display to black and white, and shuts down all unnecessary features to minimize the battery consumption.

The Galaxy S5 has a suggested retail price of Php34,990.

Wearables
The Samsung Gear Fit is the industry’s first curved, Super AMOLED wearable device. With a tag price of Php8,990, the Gear Fit provides instant notifications from Galaxy smartphones such as incoming calls, emails, SMS, alarm, S-planner, and 3rd party apps. The straps are changeable and are available in black, orange and mocha grey.

Offering users increased connectivity, customization and control, the Gear 2 (Php13,990) and Gear 2 Neo (Php8,990) allow users to accept or ignore incoming calls and messages, and provide instant notification options based on a user’s activity and habits.

Both devices act as an extension of a consumer’s daily life, offering users more control of their lives with standalone features, such as controlling electronic products such as TV, settop box through WatchON Remote application in their own home with an embedded IrLED sensor. The addition of a standalone music player with Bluetooth headset means people can leave their smartphone at home and still enjoy their music on the go.

Both devices also offer personal fitness coaching in real time, allowing users to develop a customizable fitness routine and monitor their heart rate in order to improve their overall well-being.

Finally, the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo let users connect to a wide variety of Samsung devices and access an enriched application ecosystem as the first wearable powered by Tizen based wearable platform. Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are compatible with more than dozens of Samsung Galaxy smartphones at launch.

Integrated in the main body is a camera. Strap color options include Charcoal Black, Gold Brown and Wild Orange for Gear2 and Charcoal Black, Mocha Grey and Wild Orange for Gear2 Neo. The home screen background, clock face and font are also customizable.
