Keeping true to its promise of bringing the latest technology to other parts of the country, Globe has expanded its 5G coverage to 17 key cities in Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.
The company is accelerating upgrades of its existing technology to improve further the connectivity, mobile experience, and unlock vast potentials for its customers as 5G technology in Bacolod, Boracay, Iloilo, Talisay, Lapu-Lapu, Cordova, Minglanilla and Cebu City in Visayas; and in Davao City and Cagayan De Oro in Mindanao becomes available.
In the first week of November, its 5G network has already reached certain areas in Davao City. Globe customers are encouraged to get their 5G capable mobile devices via the postpaid plans available on the Globe online store (shop.globe.com.ph) or from Globe stores in Davao City so they can experience the jaw-dropping speeds and other potentials of 5G.
5G is the latest wireless internet connectivity that promises faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and more stable internet connections compared to 4G.
“We have a very active 5G development in Metro Manila and we hope to cover 80% of that soon. We are probably in the two-thirds range right now. To complement this, we have also begun to roll out in six key cities in Visayas and Mindanao as part of the overall change we are making to bring 5G to more places and customers in the country,” said Gil Genio, Globe’s Chief Technology and Information Officer.
In Metro Manila, Globe has added more additional sites to widen its total areas with 5G availability, currently on track for its target to cover around 80% of Metro Manila by the end of 2020.
Globe’s aggression on 5G rollout is part of its 3-pronged strategy for network upgrades and expansion, which includes aggressive cell site builds; upgrading its cell sites to 4G/LTE using many different frequencies; and fast tracking the fiberization of Filipino homes nationwide.
The company likewise champions the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UNSDG No. 9 which recognizes the importance of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development. Globe has vowed to uphold the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
