The ULeague Mobile Legends Charity Clash Tournament reached an epic finale with two eSports teams from Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) battling it out for the ULeague Championship title. At the end of the matches Team Barbie bested Tech Warriors and teams from City Savings Bank, DragonPay, Salarium and UBX to claim the title and a cash prize of Php 30,000.
Donations totaling to P135,000 from participating companies throughout the entire ULeague season will be turned over to the tournament beneficiaries Caritas Manila and Kalipay Negrese Foundation in support of their COVID-19 relief programs.”
“The ULeague Mobile Legends Charity Clash Tournament was born out of UnionBank’s internal tournament for employee engagement called UGames,” said Arvie de Vera, UnionBank Senior Vice President and Fintech Group Head. “UGames started before the pandemic, and following the lockdown quickly shifted to being fully digital. It turned out to be the perfect venue to engage employees while working from home. Matches were held after hours and streamed online. It started getting a lot of attention and interest, not just from UnionBank but our partners well. So we created ULeague to open it up to our subsidiaries and partners including corporates, fintechs and SMEs. The reception was overwhelming, and eSports became a great venue for engagement and camaraderie with colleagues, partners, sister companies and customers alike.”
ULeague was made possible through the collaboration of UnionBank and its partners Distributed Ledger Technology Association of the Philippines (DLTAP), Fintech Philippines Association (FPH), Tech Up Pilipinas Inc. and UnionBank’s online donation and payment collection platform UShare.
32 eSports teams from several companies, including UnionBank, its subsidiaries CitySavings Bank, UBX and PETNET Inc., as well as UnionBank’s fintech partners including Coins.ph, XLOG, PDAX, Data Analytics Ventures, Inc. (DAVI), DragonPay, Salarium, Banana Fintech, and EOI Digital competed in a virtual tournament composed of four qualifying rounds featuring the popular mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang during the quarantine period.
