Reflecting its support for IT education in the Philippines, global supplier of networking products D-Link International Pte. Ltd. entered into a partnership with the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators Foundation, Inc. (PSITE), an organization of academic institutions, IT program heads, faculty members, corporate members and IT graduate students.
D-Link joined the PSITE annual National Convention which had the theme “Towards Intelligent PSITE @ 20,” and which gathered together 300 attendees and 200 academic institutions from all over the country. Besides bringing together stakeholders in IT education under one roof, the event looked into current developments and trends in intelligent education and e-learning, the role of digital arts, cloud computing, data mining and analytics, and the potential of machine learning.
D-Link’s future plans include supporting laboratory upgrades and projects for private and public schools by offering network upgrades. These upgrades will equip schools with the latest software technologies necessary to aid IT professors and instructors in educating their students.
More than half of IT students have been found to lack the necessary programming skills that will make them fit for employment after graduation, according to a study last year by the Philippine Software industry Association (PSIA). Poor access to new technologies that facilitate learning may be one of the reasons.
While there remains other factors to be addressed when it comes to improving IT education in the Philippines, this partnership with PSITE is a step forward in achieving that goal. With the support from D-Link, the IT industry can look forward to having better equipped IT graduates who are ready for the professional world.
