Union Bank of the Philippines launched a series of hackathons. The <U>HACK & PLAY is a competition and mentoring event to showcase digital capabilities in developing applications.
This year’s hackathon, which starts in Cebu on July 15, focuses on bringing out innovations or software related to banking, e-commerce, and SMEs, as well as applications for nation-building and digital transformation, incorporating technology solutions such as Artificial Intelligence, Augmented and Virtual Reality, Identity Authentication, Robotics and Data Analytics, and mobile applications related to what Union Bank does as a financial institution.
The hackathon is open to all IT students and working professionals who accept the challenge of showcasing their digital talent in creating applications. Winners will receive cash prizes and trophies.
According to Dennis Omila, CIO at Union Bank, through the event, they hope to develop their capabilities to be competitive “by embracing a different mentality in the digital transformation. The hackathon is one way of substantiating our thrust towards digital transformation,” he said.
The hackathon also aims to enhance Union Bank’s partnerships with developers, fintechs, and the academe to be able to exchange ideas on how to enhance curriculum; attract and discover talents; and build digital employees bank. The bank is also planning to conduct events for kids or mini-hackathon.
The <U>HACK & PLAY series will provide Union Bank with the capacity to build its pool of digital talents by either hiring or partnering with them to help the bank delivers innovations.
The <U>HACK & PLAY series will be conducted in different key cities across the country throughout the year.
