At its first local press conference held after the company split into two 8 months ago, HP Philippines, Inc. revealed several premium devices that indicate the company’s continued quest to reinvent the mobile computing experience of business users, especially the millennial workforce.
The press conference was highlighted by the launch of the HP Elite X3, HP EliteBook Folio, HP Elite X2, and several new multifunction printers that boast of end-to-end security features.
“More than 30% of Asia-Pacific workforce are millennials,” said Albert Mateo Jr., Managing Director, HP Philippines Inc. “Millennials want the device they use to be stylish and stunning, and which gives them the freedom to create and express their aspirations. If they use the device for work, they also want to be sure that it is secure enough and lets them collaborate effortlessly.”
Mateo explained that work and life are converging into “One Life” and there are no longer boundaries between the two. Workplaces are no longer confined spaces but anywhere with an Internet connection, and workstyles involve more collaboration than ever before. Today’s workforce, consisting of a growing millennial base, expects the technology they use to fulfill both their business and personal requirements.
However, amid the clamor for mobility in the enterprise, there are three “pain points” businesses are experiencing today, according to Kris Seville, Country PC Business Unit Manager, HP Philippines, Inc. These are discontinuity for end-users across devices, apps, data, and accessories; IT departments need devices to be secured; and desktop apps are hard to handle in the world of mobility.
To address these issues, HP has launched the HP Elite X3, which the company describes as “the one device that’s every device—a tablet, PC, and smartphone in one.”
‘The one device that’s every device’
Seville stressed that the HP Elite x3 is the first built-for-business mobile device to deliver seamless phablet, laptop and desktop business productivity in a single device.
“By utilizing Continuum in Windows 10, the Elite x3 enables frictionless multi-screen transitions between a phone scenario and a desktop PC scenario,” says Seville.Seville says that with the Continuum, users can dock the Elite x3 with its ecosystem of accessories to render desktop and laptop productivity experiences while also retaining productivity on-the-go in a world-class premium and commercial-grade phablet.
With this capability, users can effortlessly switch between using the Elite x3 as a desktop, laptop or mobile device, no longer needing to worry about what device to use in what environment. The Elite x3 also utilizes biometrics to unlock the device – adding an extra layer of protection for enterprise customers.
The Elite x3 powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor, Windows 10 Mobile with Windows Continuum, the optional HP Desk Dock, and the optional Lap Dock, allowing the device to let people work on their own terms no matter where the locale. Users can also enjoy easier, faster charging with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
The Desk Dock offers a full featured desktop experience for the Elite x3. It includes a DisplayPort for external monitor support, two USB-A and a USB-C connection for business continuity, and wired Ethernet to seamlessly scale users’ productivity at their desk. The Elite x3 docks in portrait mode at a comfortable viewing angle when sitting at a desk. The dock also supports the Elite x3 with and without a protective case. The HP Lap Dock creates a laptop experience using a near zero bezel 12.5-inch diagonal HD display that’s around 1 kg. No data is stored on the Lap Dock for additional security and all of the apps, passwords and files are managed and stored from the Elite x3.
The Elite x3 also allows users to work with the apps they love and rely on. HP Workspace – an app catalog designed by HP to easily enable access to virtualized apps – drives a seamless app usage experience. HP Workspace on the Elite x3 creates a virtual PC, giving users access to company curated catalogs of x86 apps via a virtualized solution. Users benefit from quick access to their virtualized apps with a full keyboard and mouse experience not typically available from a mobile device when using the Desk Dock and Lap Dock. The Elite x3 platform has the potential to change how companies work using only a single device. HP is partnering with Salesforce, the world’s #1 CRM platform, to include Salesforce1 on every Elite x3. Salesforce1 sets a new standard for CRM, empowering users to run their businesses from their mobile devices with powerful tools that work in the cloud, keeping them up-to-date with whatever real-time data they need. Now, sales reps can use the Elite x3 and Salesforce1 to manage and update all their customer and CRM data faster than ever and perform key actions to drive business forward on-the-go.
‘The thinnest and lightest business-class notebook’
Kathy Redondo, HP Philippine, Inc.’s Marketing Manager for Business Notebooks and Tablets, unveiled the HP EliteBook Folio, describing it as the “the thinnest and lightest business-class notebook HP has ever created at only 12.4 mm and under 1 kg.”
The HP EliteBook Folio is 21% slimmer and up to 15% lighter than the award-winning HP EliteBook 1020.The EliteBook Folio is a 12.5-inch diagonal notebook, featuring a polished diamond-cut CNC aluminum body. Like the Elite family of devices, the EliteBook Folio has passed MIL-STD tests and undergone 120,000 hours of HP’s Total Test Process.
As work becomes something accomplished in different locations throughout the day, the 145-degree angle of a typical notebook can be restrictive to productivity. To address this, the EliteBook Folio has a 180-degree piano hinge, allowing the device to open completely flat, giving users greater flexibility and the ability to easily share and collaborate with others around them.
The device also comes with the full-size, highly acclaimed HP Premium Keyboard, a Windows 10 gesture-enabled clickpad, and two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 for fast data transfers and 4K displays. Users can ditch the dongles with the optional HP USB-C Travel Dock.
The edge-to-edge glass display of the EliteBook Folio also has an optional Ultra HD (UHD) 4K display, which provides a paper-like display with stunning detail, made possible by an incredible pixel density of 352 pixels per inch. The UHD panel enables 95 percent of the Adobe RGB gamut to make images more vivid and life-like.For people who require all-day productivity and performance, HP worked with Microsoft Corp. and Intel on the development of the EliteBook Folio, tuning device drivers and the design to optimize performance and battery life. The device includes Windows 10 Pro and is built with an optional 6th generation Intel Core M vPro processor, optimized for high performance and efficiency. This gives the EliteBook Folio the optimal blend of beauty, power, fanless operation and up to 10 hours of battery life. The design and materials of the device also allowed HP engineers to maximize space for an HP Long Life Battery, built to last more than three years.
Also joining the full line-up of Elite premium desktops and notebooks are the “world’s thinnest 14” business-class notebook” – the HP EliteBook 1040 G3 – and the HP EliteBook 800 G3 series.
The EliteBook 1040 and the EliteBook 800 series offer Windows 10 Pro, 6th generation Intel Core vPro processors, PCIe Gen3 SSD, and DDR4 memory. All the devices come with Audio by Bang & Olufsen, HP Noise Reduction Software and HP Clear Sound Amp to provide a rich collaboration experience for applications like Skype for Business. The EliteBook 800 series is available in 12.5-inch, 14.0-inch or 15.6-inch diagonal HD, FHD, QHD or UHD screens; the EliteBook 1040 offers a choice of either FHD or QHD screens.
