Adoption of hyperconverged infrastructure among PH enterprises accelerating

The adoption of hyperconverged infrastructure among Philippines enterprises is rapidly accelerating, according to US-based SimpliVity.

Scott Morris, Vice President, Asia Pacific, at SimpliVity

A hyperconverged infrastructure essentially integrates server, storage and virtualization into a single platform, resulting to better performance and reduced costs.
In a meeting with the media, Scott Morris, Vice President, Asia Pacific, at SimpliVity, revealed the company has shipped over 50 units of OmniCube and OmniStack hyperconverged solutions in the Philippines in less than eight months since the company appointed MSI-ECS as its distributor last year. These platforms, which deliver more than one petabyte of storage, were acquired by their customers in the education, call center, telecommunications, manufacturing, and government sectors.

“We are thrilled by Simplivity’s rapid adoption after just entering the Philippine market,” said Morris. “We believe our products offer enterprises a great opportunity to scale out their infrastructure and become adaptable in a constantly evolving business environment – something their old legacy systems just couldn’t handle. And with our latest release, OmniStack 3.5, we are eager to see even greater adoption of hyperconvergence in the country.”

Morris claims that it took them three-and-half years to develop and test the Simplivity hyperconverged platform before it came out in the market. Although the infrastructure consumed long period of time to develop, the solution can be activated three hours after being installed in the worksite.

The platform addresses IT challenges faced by local businesses including the handling of explosive growth of data and problems associated with storing, protecting and moving data; lack of data center facilities; the agility expected to support evolving business model; shortage of skilled IT talents; and slow Internet speeds and lack of Internet bandwidth that impedes inter-data center and branch office connectivity.

Designed to scale out fast and installed at low cost, SimpliVity hyperconverged solution provides all functionalities of a data center and offers data architecture on industry standard x86 hardware. The technology boasts an accelerated data efficiency that de-duplicates, compresses and optimizes data; can reduce cycle time; can increase employee productivity and operational efficiency through its Global Unified Management (GUM) and a hyperconvergence architecture that lowers up to three times the total cost of ownership.

Apart from these, the solution also has the capability to simplify deployment management and upgrade; and error resolution as well as backup, archive and disaster recovery features.

Having benefits derived such as these, some SimpliVity solution users relayed how hyperconverged infrastructure performed and beneficial to their operations.

With the platform’s in-line de-duplication and compression components, food products manufacturer Monde Nissin can now deploy disk-heavy usage applications, like mail servers and in-memory database like SAP HANA for development without the need for additional physical storage. And with the solution’s backup and recovery features, Monde Nissin’s recovery time objectives and recovery point objectives have improved, thus reducing the amount of risk.

Another client, a local telecommunications firm, which uses SimpliVity hyperconverged solution to provide the best mobile services to their customers, has improved its performance by 75%, and realized greater efficiency with 100:1 to 200:1 savings in storage capacity and IO performance it gets.

The findings of a study conducted by IDC which measure SimpliVity’s efficiency and reliability support what users shared about the technology. Entitled “Next Generation Convergence & SimpliVity’s Hyperconverged Technology”, the study found out that 78% of customers realized about 65% improvement in storage utilization and about 80% received a 70% or more improvement in backup and disaster recovery.

The study also says that 90% of customers are using built-in data protection. Of these, 51% retired their third-party solutions, and only use SimpliVity for those workloads. About 81% says the time spent on their new projects increases while 33% says there is an improvement in budget spent on new projects rather than on maintenance.
