Wearable cinema? Sooner than you think, says Allomind

Speck will be “wearable eyeware”. That is, a personal media device that will deliver truly immersive, 4K-resolution picture that places the viewer right in the middle of their entertainment – all in a package that is small enough to carry wherever a user goes, lightweight enough to wear for hours without discomfort, and affordable and stylish enough to be accessible to a broad range of budgets and tastes.

“When you look at pretty much any device out there, from our phones to our computers, the push is to go smaller,” said Abhijit Limaye, Allomind CEO. “Screens are the only components that are getting bigger instead. Why? Immersive field of view. People want to be immersed in their movies and media. We are making immersive screens smaller and low-powered so that we can fit what is effectively a 100-inch 4K television into a pair of sunglasses.”

Allomind is partnering with leaders in industrial and user interface design to bring Speck to life. Ammunition, known for its work creating hardware for companies like Beats by Dr. Dre, Polaroid, and Square, will take the lead on the industrial design for Speck. Territory Studio, known for its work in films including The Martian, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Ex Machina, will design Speck’s user interface.

The development of Speck is ongoing – the team plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo later this year, to give early adopters a chance to be one of the first to secure their Specks.
