Chong Hua Hospital, the Philippines’ largest health charity, has selected HP Converged Storage to enable its facilities to deliver a high standard of patient care.
Chong Hua Hospital operates a 660-bed hospital in Cebu, the Philippines’ second largest city. In 2008 the hospital decided to digitize all its patient data records to ensure reliable, consistent clinical information for medical specialists to make fast, informed decisions. The first step was digitizing radiology images by deploying a Picture and Archive Communications System (PACS). However, the huge volume of rich media generated by PACS was consuming storage capacity too rapidly and by mid-2011, was causing performance slowdowns in the hospital’s database servers.
After evaluating competitive storage solutions from IBM, Dell and Hitachi, Chong Hua Hospital chose an HP Converged Storage solution based on HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage and HP StoreAll Storage to improve patient care by accelerating medical record delivery.
By upgrading to HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage, the hospital is able to increase its data center capacity and performance without increasing infrastructure footprint or energy costs. As a result hospital staff have consistent access to patient data records, even as the volume of records escalates.
In addition to improving capacity and performance, HP 3PAR StoreServ enables the IT team to be relieved of tedious manual administration through autonomic provisioning and management, minimizing future disruption and saving the operating costs of unused disk capacity.
HP StoreAll Storage allows the hospital to purchase only the disk capacity for archiving it actually needs, as it needs it. Together, HP 3PAR StoreServ and HP StoreAll deliver a new modular, scale-out environment that gives the organization’s IT team the ability to expand its data archives without preplanning or downtime.
“As a leading provider of healthcare in the Philippines we always put patient safety first. To continue delivering the highest quality of care, we need easy, reliable access to patient records,” said Arthur Jason Go, PACS Administrator, Chong Hua Hospital. “HP’s storage solutions provide the flexibility and performance to allow us to rapidly scale to billions of files without expensive hardware upgrades and maintenance. The new system makes life simpler for staff and ultimately helps us provide quality care to a growing number of patients.”
The HP storage solution was deployed by HP partner Ng Khai Development Corporation in conjunction with HP Technology Services specialists to ensure Chong Hua Hospital staff were trained on the upgraded system.
