PLDT Home Fibr’s 1Gbps broadband service was recently demonstrated at the spacious residence of Italian furniture brand Minottie Manila General Manager and Living Innovations President Ferdinand “Ferdie” Ong.
The house, situated in the posh Forbes Park in Makati City, is among the more than 70 homes in the country that are connected to the Internet via PLDT Home Fibr’s 1Gbps broadband network.
With glass walls and imported modern furniture in rooms that overlooked a garden with a swimming pool, the house is equipped with several Fam Cam devices—installed in the entrance, living room, and kitchen—which were controlled with the Telpad, an all-in-one landline, broadband, and tablet.
The Fam Cam is essentially a home monitoring camera that transmits live footage to mobile devices, using a PLDT Home Internet (DSL or Fibr) connection. The device has a built-in mic, with an advanced version that also provides two-way communication, as well as camera panning, tilting and zooming in.
The kitchen, living room, and bedroom of Ong’s house were also installed with Telpads, so from anywhere in the abode you can monitor the house.
In the main living room was a TV that had the Intel-powered TVolution Stick attached to it via HDMI. The TVolution stick basically transforms an HDMI-capable TV into a fully functioning Windows computer. It has built-in WiFi so we were able to wirelessly connect to the Internet via PLDT Home Fibr’s 1Gbps broadband service.
The second living room had the TVolution Box, which turns an ordinary TV, into an Internet TV.
The house was also set up with a gaming area where a couple of computers, which were directly connected to PLDT Home Fibr’s 1Gbps broadband, were installed to allow bloggers and media people to play online games, seamlessly and lag-free.
PLDT Home Fibr delivers Internet connection “speeds of up to” 1Gbps which means you won’t always get a 1Gbps connection, but you will get at least a speed of around 700Mbps, which is still quite fast.
With one of the computers in the gaming area, UpgradeMag.com conducted a couple of speed tests and the first generated a download speed of 877.53Mbps, and upload speed of 934.86Mbps. The second test generated a download speed of 902.83Mbps, and upload speed of 831.85Mbps. Despite the results of the speed tests, connection to the Internet using the laptop was extremely fast, much faster than what the ordinary connected Filipino is used to.
According to PLDT, the 1Gbps broadband service is available in over 1,600 Fibr-powered villages nationwide, including Valle Verde 1-6, Forbes Park, Dasmarinas Village, and Ayala Alabang, among others.
PLDT Home Fibre Plans start at Php1,899.
