DITO teams up with ZTE to deploy 32TR Massive MIMO in PH, boosting network capacity and efficiency

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in enhancing mobile connectivity and capacity across the country.

ZTE Corporation, a global provider of integrated information and communication technology solutions, has partnered with DITO Telecommunity to revolutionize the Philippines’ network infrastructure through the deployment of TDD Massive MIMO technology. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in enhancing mobile connectivity and capacity across the country.

As the Philippines’ third-largest telco, DITO has consistently redefined the local telecom landscape since its launch in 2019. With over 7,000 physical sites, an 86% network coverage rate, and more than 13 million active users, DITO is driving rapid growth, particularly in 5G services, where it leads competitors in speed and user experience. To address its rapidly growing 4G demand, DITO sought innovative solutions to optimize its spectrum resources and network capacity.

In 2024, DITO conducted a comprehensive evaluation of TDD Massive MIMO technologies, comparing 8T8R, 64T64R, and other configurations. After in-depth analysis, the 32T32R solution emerged as a better choice, offering exceptional performance and cost efficiency.

Game-Changing Pilot Results
Led by DITO Telecommunity Wireless and Network Planning Senior Advisor, Mr. Vincent Zhou and assisted by ZTE, with fast delivery and installation, ZTE and DITO launched the pilot site in high-demand areas. Then, the 32T32R deployment achieved outstanding results compared to 8T8R:

  • 99% improvement in spectrum efficiency
  • 92% increase in average cell traffic volume
  • 75% growth in average connected users

These results underscore the transformative impact of TDD Massive MIMO on enhancing 4G network capacity while ensuring cost-effectiveness.

Scaling Up for the Future
Following the pilot’s success, ZTE and DITO are gearing up to expand the commercial rollout of the 32T32R solution. This initiative will not only alleviate pressure on high-traffic areas but also enable DITO to meet the growing connectivity needs of Filipinos. The expanded network will significantly enhance spectrum utilization, improve user experiences, and support DITO’s revenue and service goals in the futureThe expanded network is expected to significantly improve spectrum utilization, enhance user experiences, and support DITO’s revenue and service objectives.

“DITO is committed to providing cutting-edge technology that empowers Filipinos with fast, reliable, and accessible connectivity,” said Rodolfo Santiago, CTO of DITO Telecommunity. “Through our partnership with ZTE, we’re not just addressing current network demands—we’re paving the way for a smarter, more connected future,” he added.

Shi Bozhi, CMO of ZTE Philippines, echoed the sentiment, stating, “This partnership highlights our dedication to delivering innovative solutions that drive meaningful progress for communities and industries.”

ZTE and DITO Telecommunity remain committed to empowering the Philippines with advanced telecommunications infrastructure. By leveraging cutting-edge technology such as TDD Massive MIMO, both companies are dedicated to building a smarter, more connected nation that meets the changing needs of Filipino communities and businesses.
