PLDT, Smart, FHMoms upskill moms in need with digital skills

Recipients of the program include single mothers, mothers with physical or psychosocial disabilities, and those caring for family members with disabilities.

PLDT and its wireless unit Smart, in partnership with social enterprise Filipina Homebased Moms (FHMoms), have concluded the fourth batch of their digital upskilling program for mothers in need, under the Group’s pioneering Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Advocacy through Technology (IDEATe) initiative. The program aims to equip these women with the necessary digital skills to secure remote tech jobs and improve their livelihoods.

Representing PLDT and Smart during the graduation ceremony, Smart Stakeholder Management Officer Chariz A. Ricasio expressed her admiration for the graduates. “Congratulations to our Batch 4 of PLDT-Smart-FHMom graduates! I can only imagine the time and effort everyone invested to be able to acquire the digital skills offered by the program. As a daughter, I have seen my own mother’s struggles to find the time needed to take care of our family and the resources needed to make us flourish.

Recipients of the program include single mothers, mothers with physical or psychosocial disabilities, and those caring for family members with disabilities. Through intensive training, these women were able to enhance their digital literacy and develop the skills needed to excel in the remote work environment.

“PLDT and Smart believe that technology should empower everyone, regardless of their abilities. In a world where digital access is key to education, employment, and staying connected, we are committed to breaking down barriers for people with disabilities. Our goal is to make the digital world accessible to everyone,” added Ricasio.

To ensure that the participants have the necessary connectivity to succeed, PLDT and Smart provided the scholars with Smart Pocket Bro WiFi devices and Smart Prepaid load cards, equipping and enabling them to work effectively from home.

Since 2017, PLDT and Smart have been at the forefront of promoting digital inclusion in underserved communities. Through various initiatives, they have upskilled senior citizens, farmers, fisherfolk, indigenous peoples, and persons with disabilities.

The IDEATe program aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of No Poverty, Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Reduced Inequalities. By empowering and promoting the social, economic, and political inclusion of all, including persons with disabilities, PLDT and Smart are making a significant contribution to a more equitable and inclusive society.
