Forty-five grassroots churches across the Philippines have received 250 million Ophir crypto tokens each as endowments from the Ophir project to support their operations, community outreach, and worship activities.
The grant was given during Ophir’s first-anniversary celebration, attended by over 200 pastors and church leaders at the Evangelical FREE Church in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite.
“Many of our local churches struggle with rising costs and limited funding, leaving them unable to maintain their buildings, expand programs, or support their communities effectively. We want to help them by providing not an immediate financial solution but a strategic tool for long-term sustainability,” said Jon Blaylock, founder of the Ophir project.
Central to this initiative is an extensive educational process led by Ophir’s leaders and volunteer blockchain experts to empower church leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to make informed decisions about their endowments. The sessions covered a wide range of topics, including how to stake tokens securely, navigate the Ophir marketplace, and manage digital assets responsibly.
Since its launch in August 2023, the Ophir project has distributed tokens to a total of 256 small churches and congregations throughout the country. The tokens can be staked for a maximum of 22 years, granting the churches to receive up to 1887% interest in additional Ophir tokens, enabling them to build wealth gradually and preparing them for future challenges and growth without risking financial depletion.
As the crypto gains value over time, the grant will offer churches the resources to restore their buildings, plan new projects, and grow endowments. Some grantees have sold some of their scraped Ophir tokens through the official Ophir marketplace, allowing them to meet their immediate financial needs.
For instance, the Christ the Power of God Worship Center in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite, sold their scraped Ophir tokens to cover the rent for their new mission house after their previous building was foreclosed. While others, like the Doulos Christos Pag-asa in Antipolo, Rizal was able to purchase a screen monitor, and Jesus is Victorious Church in Ajuy, Iloilo used the funds to acquire musical instruments for their worship services.
“As these churches receive their respective allocations, the impact reverberates throughout the Ophir community, demonstrating the practical applications of cryptocurrency in empowering local congregations and fostering a new kind of philanthropy. The successful distribution of Ophir tokens underscores our commitment to democratizing access to financial resources and fostering inclusive growth,” Blaylock added.
Matt Frazier, CEO of Infinet Development, founder of the Texan Token, and a key supporter of Ophir project, also highlighted the long-term vision behind the Ophir endowment during his keynote speech: “With Ophir, we are committed to unlocking global generosity by providing an endowment that can serve as a multigenerational asset, empowering churches to sustain their ministries and continue serving their communities for years to come.”
Ann Cuisia, CEO of Traxion Tech, stressed in her speech blockchain’s transformative potential, particularly for grassroots organizations: “Blockchain provides a secure, transparent way for churches to grow their financial resources. With the proper education and guidance, these churches are now at the forefront of adopting this revolutionary technology, allowing them to build multigenerational wealth.”
Built on the PulseChain protocol, Ophir is intended to catalyze the establishment of a digital nation “consisting of hearts and minds determined to give, and where all prosper together instead of at each other’s expense.”
Blaylock believes the Ophir project has proved how cryptocurrency can be used as a tool for community empowerment. As the project grows, Ophir seeks more local churches to benefit from similar initiatives alongside companies and individuals seeking to leverage this breakthrough technology to unlock abundance in order to fuel generosity towards those most in need.
