OMODA C5 earns 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety certification

Scoring a total of 88.64 points, OMODA C5’s performance during the ASEAN NCAP evaluation sets a new benchmark for its segment.

Global automotive brand OMODA & JAECOO has set a new benchmark for automotive safety after earning the prestigious 5-Star Safety Certification for its  luxury compact crossover SUV OMODA C5 from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations New Car Assessment Programme (ASEAN NCAP), the first China-Malaysia joint 5-Star safety test. The certification was presented by representatives from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) during a media press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 13.

Scoring a total of 88.64 points, OMODA C5’s performance during the ASEAN NCAP evaluation sets a new benchmark for its segment. Notably, the vehicle earned full marks in 11 out of 18 test items and excelled in critical areas such as Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), and Safety Assist (SA). This result not only highlights the vehicle’s robust safety features but also positions OMODA C5 as a leading contender in the competitive automotive market.

The ASEAN NCAP Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test results show that the OMODA C5 can provide marginal protection to the driver’s body, with adequate protection for the chest and lower legs. The vehicle’s front compartment remained stable during impact tests, thanks to its construction, which utilizes high-strength steel for 78% of its body. Key areas responsible for collision protection are reinforced with ultra-high-strength steel and hot-formed steel, boasting a tensile strength of 1500 Mpa. This robust construction acts as a “golden armor” and “iron shirt”, effectively safeguarding the driver inside the vehicle.

On top of its impressive features and capabilities, OMODA C5 boasts an innovative “caged energy absorption” design that creates a lightweight yet high-strength energy absorption space capsule structure. This innovative design employs a “three-way pressure distribution + bilateral four energy-absorbing boxes” system, ensuring effective impact absorption and energy dispersion during both frontal and side collisions. As long as the cabin remains intact, this structure minimizes the force transmitted to occupants, thereby enhancing overall safety.

The OMODA C5 also achieved the highest score in the ASEAN NCAP Safety Assist (SA) category, showcasing its intelligent driving assistance technology, which boasts 16 safety features including a 360° panoramic camera, full-speed ACC adaptive cruise control, and RCTA Rear Cross Traffic Alert. These features seamlessly work together to alert drivers to potential risks and provide timely warnings for scenarios like emergency stops, driver distraction, lane deviations due to fatigue, and blind spots. This comprehensive system makes safe driving both intuitive and effortless.

This ASEAN NCAP 5-Star safety certification follows OMODA C5’s earlier successes: the 5-star safety ratings from the European New Car Assessment Programme (E-NCAP) and the Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (A-NCAP), two of the most globally authoritative and stringent new car safety 5-star assessment programs. These achievements demonstrate OMODA’s commitment to meeting global safety standards and advancing automotive innovation.

The OMODA C5’s international recognitions are also a testament to the brand’s unwavering dedication and craftsmanship, grounded in its “safety first” philosophy. From the start of its development, the OMODA C5 has prioritized excellence in every aspect—materials, design, structure, and advanced technology—carefully engineered to meet global 5-star safety standards and ensure maximum protection for users worldwide.

“Securing the ASEAN NCAP safety rating underscores our steadfast commitment to safety, innovation, and, most importantly, to our customers. The brand’s core mission—prioritizing safety and quality, with a focus on superior products—is embedded in its DNA and rigorously applied throughout the quality control process,” said Marco Chen, Country Director OMODA+JAECOO Philippines.
