Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao (Mapúa MCM) has demonstrated its emphasis on creating a globally competitive learning environment for students during a series of Open Campus events in their Davao campus.
Prospective students and their parents were given opportunities to survey, try out, and observe the various state-of-the-art facilities that Mapúa MCM students will use throughout their educational journey. The facility tour highlighted the technologically advanced Mapúa-Arizona State University Global Classroom, equipped with high-tech audio and video peripherals to host international-level lectures and discussions.
Guests were able to experience the university’s flagship HyFlex or Hybrid-Flexible classroom, called the FLUX (Flexible Learning Ubiquitous eXperience) Classroom. The FLUX Classroom seamlessly integrates digital and physical educational technology like Microsoft Teams and AI Camera for smoother and free-flowing classroom discourses. While the institution’s Multi-functional Laboratory which is designed to accommodate interdisciplinary experiments across all courses under the institution’s College of Health Sciences programs including subjects like molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, botany, zoology also took the spotlight.
Aside from its rigorous curriculum, the school also values the importance of collaboration, creativity, communication, and teamwork among its students. To foster these, the learning institution installed a Learning Commons or a retrofitted flexible learning space conducive to studying, collaboration, and idea generation while using educational technology tools. To complement this, the institution has an expansive library with multiple private collaboration hubs where students can work on group projects, solo study cubicles, a napping area, and a café.
Through a variety of highly interactive and personal demonstrations in each highlighted facility, attendees were able to picture how the academic programs of each junior high, senior high, and college student are further enhanced with the help of Mapúa MCM’s cutting-edge amenities and educational tools.
The activity also enabled interested students and their kin to familiarize themselves with the different program offerings, achievements, learning materials, scholarships and financial aid, academic exposure activities, joint programs, and other opportunities given to Mapúa MCM students. After the campus tour and facility demonstrations, Open House guests were able to interact and meet student volunteers who shared their personal experiences as students of the institution.
Mapúa MCM’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Engr. Alejandro H. Ballado Jr., explained how the event was able to prove the educational institution’s determination and sincerity in fulfilling its mission and realizing its vision of standing among the world’s leading academic institutions and providing an environment that enables students to acquire attributes that empower them to become globally competitive and locally in-demand.
“The advanced tools and learning facilities provided by the institution allow for the community to thrive in a conducive environment that is caught up with the technological standards of the rest of the world – allowing for an enhanced learning experience from anywhere, despite circumstances; access to plentiful resources online; and ease of usage and technological training and advancement,” Engr. Ballado added.
On top of these physical facilities, the school utilizes educational tools like Blackboard Learn and Canvas, which allow students to access class recordings, assignments, exams, and learning resources. Students can use over 14,000 digital resources like e-books and interactive learning materials from Wiley, Cengage, and McGraw-Hill. They can utilize Labster for online laboratory simulations and the computer-aided design software AutoCAD for their major subjects.
These resources and amenities greatly enhance students’ learning. As a current third-year psychology student, John Lloyd Gumahad found the Global Classroom advantageous.
“Mapúa MCM’s advanced facilities and educational technologies have enhanced my educational experience by providing convenient access to essential information, ultimately making me more efficient and effective in my academic pursuits,” said Gumahad.
Third-year Communication student Michael Farid A. Castañaga echoed his sentiments and shared that the library, Blackboard Learn, and unlimited Wi-Fi were extremely helpful to his studies.
“Mapúa MCM is a conducive space for learning because the facilities and events are built with the students in mind. You could see how the institution listens to the students on ways to improve their learning experience. I would recommend Mapúa MCM. It is one of the best places to study with the best teachers. It promotes education without stifling the fun college experience,” said Castañaga.
