Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has kept its lead among all local telcos in terms of SIM registration, with 46.9 million registered subscribers as of June 13 accounting for 71% of its total subscriber base.
At PLDT’s recent Annual Stockholders’ Meeting, the leading integrated telco’s President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio said that collaborations with government in coming up with the landmark law’s Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), as well as the company’s focus on customer experience on its SIM registration platform, proved vital in its campaign.
“We made sure that Smart’s SIM registration customer experience would be seamless. It was important for us to understand the customer journey and make it as convenient to our customers as possible,” Panlilio said, stating in his President’s Report to Shareholders how all efforts are in line with the Group’s commitment to consumer online protection.
Smart also actively collaborated with national agencies and local government units to deploy thousands of Assisted SIM Registration booths across the country, particularly in remote, far-flung municipalities to help seniors, persons with disabilities and those still using non-data phones to register their SIM.
In addition to these, Panlilio also said Smart’s award-winning “Mag-SIM Reg Para Hindi SIM Dead” campaign also helped push Smart and TNT subscribers to register their SIMs.
“We also invested heavily on a customer education campaign. The series really caught the attention of our customers and was positively accepted by the market,” he said.
One of the videos in the campaign, “Tattoo” by Smart’s value mobile brand TNT, was also recently recognized as Best TV material by Bestads, the world’s best global ad industry website, after going viral and racking up millions of views, drawing praises for its wit and creativity.
The first Filipino video to top the Bestads list within the past three years, “Tattoo,” is one of three videos aimed at encouraging Smart and TNT subscribers to register their SIMs to avoid permanent SIM deactivation and all its hassles.
With the recent announcement of the deadline extension of the SIM Registration Act, Smart continues to encourage subscribers to register their SIMs before July 25, 2023.
To register, Smart Prepaid and TNT subscribers can visit the https://simreg.smart.com.ph/ portal, while Smart Bro subscribers can refer to http://www.smart.com.ph/viewbroadbandsms for instructions on getting their OTP. Smart Postpaid users, on the other hand, are already considered registered based on the latest advice of the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
