Globe’s Hapag Movement aims to ease hunger among 500K Pinoys

In its commitment to uplift the lives of Filipinos, Globe recently launched The Hapag Movement, a fundraising initiative led by the Globe Group which aims to promote an integrated approach to hunger alleviation to benefit vulnerable Filipino families.

Involuntary hunger continues to be a major challenge for many low-income families, especially those who lost their livelihood during the pandemic.

In its commitment to uplift the lives of Filipinos, Globe recently launched The Hapag Movement, a fundraising initiative led by the Globe Group which aims to promote an integrated approach to hunger alleviation to benefit vulnerable Filipino families.

The Hapag Movement aims to support 100,000 Filipino families or 500,000 individuals.

Under the program, Globe will mobilize local and international contributions from multiple sources, including partner networks and other organizations, to help address the hunger crisis which has affected some 15 million Filipinos, according to the fourth quarter 2021 report of the Social Weather Stations.

The increasing hunger incidence is brought about by unemployment worsened by the pandemic, with 3.13 million Filipinos jobless as of the February 2022 report of the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Launched during the Globe GG Party event attended by gamers, industry partners and media, The Hapag Movement is the company’s effort to help fight hunger through technology. It is grounded in the belief that every person deserves a seat at the table for a decent meal. Globe is using its digital platforms for fundraising such as GCash and Globe Rewards points donations, and also tapping the gaming community to contribute to the cause.

“This program is anchored on the company’s ecosystem of relevant services and products that enable Filipinos to uplift their lives and those around them. We encourage our customers and partners to help put food on the table of families in need by donating through GCash or using their Globe Rewards points,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

“Whether you’re just starting out to play, you’re an avid streamer, a professional gamer, or even just someone who wants to show support for those who love to play, we want everyone to know that with Globe, there is good in gaming and we can embrace it together,” said Rina Siongco, Head of Get Entertained Tribe at Globe.

The Hapag Movement is part of the Globe of Good program, a holistic intervention focusing on hunger alleviation and livelihood opportunities to help vulnerable families.  It is being implemented in partnership with the Ayala Foundation’s #BrigadangAyalaKaakay Program, Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines, and Caritas Philippines.

The program consists of food distribution initiatives, capacity-building sessions for upskilling and micro-entrepreneurship, seed capital in the form of microlending, and access to employment opportunities through partner companies.

You can also donate to the Hapag Movement by simply scanning the GCash QR Code using your GCash app.

This initiative is in line with Globe’s support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 9, which highlights the roles of infrastructure and innovation as crucial drivers of economic growth and development.
