Taiwanese-owned Acer announced an expansion in its Vero line of tech products that are considered safe for the environment as part of commitment to achieve 100% renewable use by 2035. Disclosed during the recently held next@acer 2022 global event, the eco-friendly product lineup consists of two laptops, an all-in-one desktop, a projector, monitors and peripherals that contain PCR (Post-Consumer Recycled) plastic, OBP (Ocean-bound Plastic) and recyclable packaging.
“We’re promoting the green PCs in Southeast Asia, as we have an internal goal of obtaining 30 percent revenue from green products in the next two or three years. However, there is a need to educate the market as recycled material is not always cheaper so we have different strategies for different countries,” said Andrew Hou, Acer Pan Asia Pacific president.
The new Vero laptops include Aspire Vero (AV14-41), a 14-inch laptop that is powered by 12th Gen Intel Core processor, and Aspire Vero (AV15-52), a 15-inch laptop that is based on the same 12th Gen Intel Core processor. These laptops, which support storage and RAM expansion, have OceanGlass trackpads produced from ocean-bound plastic and include 30% PCR plastic. The boxes used for these laptops are made of recycled plastic.
The laptops are also equipped with Intel’s Xe integrated graphics, DDR4 memory, up to 1TB of SSD storage, Wi-Fi 6E compatibility and superior FHD displays. Aside from cobblestone grey color, the Vero 14 is available in mariana blue while the Vero 15 in starry black.
In these laptops, the process of making repairs and upgrades is more convenient with a bottom cover that can be easily removed with standard screws for replacing the RAM and SSD.
The Veriton Vero AIO desktop, on the other hand, prioritizes space-saving and is recommended for work-from-home users. The device is powered by up to 12th Gen Intel Core i9 CPU and optional NVIDIA GeForce MX550 GPU. It is equipped with 64GB DDR4-3200 RAM and 2TB PCIe SSDs. It has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports which allows you to connect to external storage at a blazing fast speed while the Wi-Fi 6E module delivers reliable and quick Internet speed.
With an eco-friendly design, the CB273 27-inch IPS monitor uses 85% PCR and 5% OBP in the manufacture of the entire unit. It has a color Rheinland Eyesafe certification that emits less blue light while the KVM switch allows you to switch between multiple computers. The USB-C port on the back can power devices by up to 90W.
The 23.8-inch B247Y G has a slightly different design and smaller form factor. It is the same as the CB273 except for the inclusion of the KVM switch.
Another products that were created with 65% PCR plastic and 30% OBP are the Vero mouse, and keyboard combo. These peripherals can run up to 18 months off a full battery while the Vero keyboard houses switches that can last up to 5-million clicks.
The Vero lineup of products was initiated under Earthion, Acer’s mission to leverage its strengths, supply chain partners, customers and employees to develop innovative an integrated solutions to help tackle environmental issues for a more sustainable future. Earthion’s objectives include Acer’s RE100 commitment to source 100% renewable energy by 2035, more eco-friendly product designs, and the reduction of Acer’s supply chain carbon footprint.
