Invest in our planet, go paperless, say PLDT and Smart

Customers of PLDT Home, PLDT Enterprise, and Smart have been receiving electronic copies of their monthly statements following the migration to paperless billing.

PLDT Inc. (PLDT) and Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) are encouraging their customers to embrace the new digital billing program to join the global call for sustainable practices. Customers of PLDT Home, PLDT Enterprise, and Smart have been receiving electronic copies of their monthly statements following the migration to paperless billing.

“In addition to ensuring that our customers receive their bills faster and more securely, the migration to paperless billing supports the PLDT group’s overall sustainability efforts to use our planet’s resources more efficiently. As stewards of the environment, we align ourselves with like-minded organizations in the fight against climate change,” said Melissa Vergel De Dios, First Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at PLDT.

The migration to digital billing helps save more than 9 million sheets of paper and about 93 liters of ink monthly from printing customers’ statements of account based on 2019 data. This translates to saving more than a thousand trees from being cut per month or around 12 hectares of forest annually.

As two of the country’s pioneers in sustainability, PLDT and Smart are the only telecommunication companies invited by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) to the Stakeholders’ Chamber on the Sustainable Development Goals.

While the PLDT group continues to expand its infrastructure, it also invests in ecofriendly processes to lower its impact on the environment. The PLDT group has recently released its decarbonization roadmap where it targets to reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by year 2030.

This paperless billing initiative supports the group’s commitment to help the country achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 12 on sustainable consumption and production.
