Globe has bagged Ookla ’s Best 5G Video Experience Award in the Philippines, proving that its customers are already reaping the fruits of the company’s massive network investment.
The Video Awards was launched by the network intelligence and connectivity insights global leader early this year based on local mobile networks’ performance in the third and fourth quarters of 2021.
To compute the video score of the different mobile networks, Ookla weighed the sum of multiple video metrics. It includes the proportion of tests that failed to start, time to load the first frame of video playback, quality of video loaded, the proportion of users who experienced at least one stall in video loading or playback, and the rebuffering ratio of users who experienced a stall.
“This award shows the superior quality of experience for Globe’s 5G customers as we continue to build 5G where it matters. We are excited to harness the full potential of 5G. We believe that it will open many new opportunities to consumers, businesses, and the country as a whole as the technology matures,” said Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO.
At present, 5G is best known for providing higher-quality streaming experiences on mobile screens and better video streaming delivery due to faster connectivity speeds, ultra-low latency, and greater bandwidth. In the future, it is expected to enhance people’s experience as well as transform industries.
As of end-2021, Globe 5G is present in over 2,000 outdoor and in-building locations nationwide. It has outdoor coverage of 96% in the National Capital Region and 84% in key cities in Visayas and Mindanao.
This year, Globe commits to expanding its 5G footprint across the country while further improving the quality and consistency of experience.
