The e-commerce industry registered improvement in operations this year as it saw a 7.6% increase in conversion rates over 2020, according to a global report from WeAreSocial and Hoopsuite, with heavier online traffic showing encouraging sign that consumers have responded to the online experience.
Martin Yu, Shopee Philippines director, said the growth of e-commerce was evident at Shopee as “we saw more people and businesses joined the platform in 2021. Shoppers would embrace e-commerce even more and have integrated it with their daily routine.”
In fact, almost 64% of Filipinos surveyed said they bought something online in the past week. They turned to online shopping for their daily essentials such as face masks and all items like wallpaper decors, which have been very popular during Shopee’s Big Sale. Besides, five-million welcome gifts for new Shopee users have been redeemed since the start of 2021, and one in three shoppers at the 9.9 Super Shopping Day was new to Shopee. Further, more than eight-million new local shops opened on Shopee allow more MSMEs in different market to arrive in the digital space. On top of this, Shopee expects increased festivity as the busiest shopping season drawn in, and it is prepared to connect even more consumers and businesses through e-commerce.
Designed to support sellers, Shopee ran the second edition of Shopee University Summit while sellers learn from Shopee and industry experts on how to build their brands or maximizing Shopee’s school and social media platforms to promote their businesses, and level up their marketing strategies as well. Apart from this, the number of sellers and brands on Shopee surged by 60% in 2021 due to scaling-up digitization where brands have given avenues to connect to their target audience and cater to consumer trends and behaviors.
Meanwhile, Shopee kicked off its annual 11.11 Big Christmas Sale, the most anticipated shopping festival in the region with entertainment for everyone and promos such as PhP1 deals, free shipping with no minimum spend, 10% off daily vouchers, and giveaways worth over P12-million. Brands and local MSMEs stand to benefit from the event’s increased traffic, perking up business growth and scaling their online presence.
“As the holidays approach, we aim to bring more joy to shoppers and help them save more on things they love by curating the best deals. We’ve also pioneered efforts to expand our digital ecosystem to help more consumers, businesses, and communities access and benefit from e-commerce. We invite everyone to join us in making this the biggest and most impactful 11.11,” Yu said.
With a growing base of shoppers and more marketing tools provided by Shopee, 11.11 will give brands and MSMEs greater visibility to maximize demand by offering exclusive and offline deals, promotions, discounts, rewards for first-time shoppers, gift guides, and entertainment for the holidays.
