Data protection is a crucial concern that affects business operations and needs urgent attention as the amount of data created and stored continues to grow rapidly. This challenge stresses the need to adopt hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) system that can help increase productivity and agility while reducing the cost of IT transformation.
To address the issue, Dell Technologies has Dell EMC VxRail data protection appliance, the only jointly engineered hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) system by Dell and VMware, for VMware environment to enhance VMware workload.
According to Lee Hee Vee, senior systems engineer, Data Protection Solutions, South Asia at Dell EMC, the VMware-powered VxRail is a simple, scalable and powerful appliance that helps customers accelerate data center modernization and support customers anytime from VDIs, Kubernetes platform, AI, and many more.
Designed to simplify virtualized IT environments, VxRail integrates components – including servers, network, storage, and management software – into one physical device to match the requirements of end-user workloads. Customers can install it at the edge and in remote offices. In the case of traditional IT infrastructure that cannot deliver cloud-scale IT in an organization, the hyperconverged technology can be installed and used. It also has backup, archive and disaster recovery features.
The HCI platform addresses some IT challenges encountered by local enterprises such as the handling of rapid growth of data and problems associated with storing, protecting and moving data, and the lack of data center facilities. It supports more workloads and simplifies deployment to better meet business demands.
Another Dell data protection solution that can help reduce the cost of IT transformation is the Dell EMC PowerProtect DP4400, an integrated data protection solution in a 2U appliance which can lessens or takes away IT complexities and offers the following features: backup and restore, replication, disaster recovery, deduplication, cloud DR+ LTR, and instant access + restore.
The PowerProtect DP4400 supports cloud data protection, VMware integration, and protects against cyber threats from ransomware and other attacks. When DP4400 and VxRail as the HCI are integrated together, the solution can help reduce the cost of IT transformation.
“Our solution can cater to cloud environments and multiple cloud as well as ransomware and cyber recovery,” said Lee Hee Vee. He also said that “Dell data protection is the only one with a true air gap solution that is endorsed by the Sheltered Harbor financial industry consortium in the US.”
However, Lee Hee Vee said that DP4400 is not just for VxRail services, it could also be for any other workloads – from VMware to hyperconverged to physical services, etc.
Dell EMC data protection is the only solution that unifies the protection of VMware virtual machines and the Kubernetes – all under a single console. Another feature is its deduplication technology that is up to 65:1 deduplication ratio which helps to protect more customer data with less storage simplify deployment.
“We have a very simplified deployment of our ProtectDP data protection appliance which can be deployed in hours rather than days. We are able to to provide any customers the lowest cost to protect the data protection appliance in a 2U form factor in the industry,” said Lee Hee Vee.
