MVP Group launches group-wide Cybersecurity Council

The MVP Group of Companies has set up a Cybersecurity Council to help protect member-enterprises against the rising tide of cyber risks.

The MVP Group of Companies has set up a Cybersecurity Council to help protect member-enterprises against the rising tide of cyber risks.

This effort is being spearheaded by telecoms and digital services provider PLDT and its subsidiaries Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and ePLDT.

“The formation of this Cybersecurity Council highlights our Group’s commitment to ensure that our services—and in turn, our customers—are safe from cyber threats, and that effective, enterprise-grade cybersecurity solutions are available to safeguard the data of our customers across the group,” said PLDT chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan.

The Council will be composed of representatives from PLDT, Smart, ePLDT, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), Metro Pacific Hospital Holdings, Inc. (MPHHI), Maynilad Water Services, Inc., Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), Philex Mining, Makati Medical Center, Mediaquest Holdings, Inc., Metropac Movers, PLDT Global, MVP Rewards and Keralty Philippines.

“Cyber risks are business risks, and as they become more numerous, frequent and severe, the MVP Group must take steps to ensure coordinated mitigation, response and resilience cybersecurity measures across the member-companies and their respective industries,” said PLDT Group Chief Information Security Officer Angel Redoble, who leads the council.

The Council, the first by a Philippine conglomerate, is also in compliance with existing laws such as the Data Privacy Act and the Cybercrime Prevention Act, which require companies to safeguard customer data.

“The plan is to work closely with the government and the Department of Information and Communications Technology in cultivating awareness of cybersecurity issues. To this end, the Cybersecurity Council also aims to be a leading force in developing and disseminating cybersecurity best practices in its members’ respective industries,” Redoble said.
