SYKES Cebu gives back with Adopt-a-School campaign

As part of its annual outreach program, SYKES Philippines served Cebu’s Paknaan Day Care Center through its Adopt-a-School campaign.

For contact center SYKES Philippines, giving back to the community is one of the noblest forms of service. As part of its annual outreach program, SYKES Philippines served Cebu’s Paknaan Day Care Center through its Adopt-a-School campaign. This program was established to provide better quality of education for students of Cebu.

“We take it upon ourselves to make education a part of our social responsibility. Every year since 2013, SYKES performs initiatives that aim to improve the quality of education at Paknaan Day Care Center. The center serves as a second home for young kids who are just beginning their education, and thus plays a huge role in honing these children’s characters. With this in mind, we give as much resources as needed by the center to provide a great start to their educational experience,” said Lynn Ornopia, Project Head for Cebu’s SYKES Cares initiatives.

With education as one of its primary advocacies, SYKES’ Adopt-a-School program hosts at least three school-based activities each year. Their annual events with Paknaan Day Care Center include the Back-to-School Bash, Year-end Party, and Recognition Day. These activities aim to encourage them to strive for improved academic performance while enjoying a fun and healthy school environment. SYKES also supports the center by annually distributing school materials to the students and providing computer facilities when needed.

“Adopt-a-School is an initiative that we are very proud of as it is a campaign that employees and the management alike take part in. SYKES believes in the power that education holds and believes that every child has the right to quality education,” said Ornopia.

As part of its Adopt-a-School program, SYKES recently gathered more than 400 students aged four to five at the Paknaan Gym in Mandaue City to hold a children’s party and surprise the kids with a day of fun-filled activities. SYKESers prepared a program with creative presentations, exciting games and prizes, and snacks for the young students. Before the program ended, SYKESers put even bigger smiles on the kids’ faces as they gave away loot bags.

This educational outreach was developed under SYKES’ philanthropic arm dubbed SYKES Cares. Primarily established to promote better access to quality education, SYKES Cares promotes literacy and rolls out relevant and sustainable education-based projects on an annual basis. It is also the umbrella program for the company’s outreach activities, donation drives, and infrastructure rebuilding efforts.
