During any game of Roulette, whether it be in an online casino, or a brick-and-mortar casino, there are many different ways to place casino Roulette bets. You can place simple bets or complex ones, but it is important to understand them before you start spending your hard-earned cash.
If you are playing Roulette for real money, you want to be walking away from the table with more cash than you started with. Play it safe with a red or black bet or increase your odds of winning a jackpot with a single number bet – it’s up to you.
The game can get a little complicated, so here is the breakdown of all the different bets you can place in Roulette and how much money they can earn you.
Outside bets
Red or black
One of the most common bets you will find at a Roulette table is red or black. Many players will place a bet on red or black because it’s fairly safe – there’s almost a 50-50 chance of winning or losing. Many people to bet on a specific color based on the previous winners. The payout is 1:1, so if you place £1 on red and it comes in, you’ll win £2.
Odd or even
Similar to the red or black bet, odd or even is also very popular and carries the same odds of 1:1. Odd or even is less likely to be selected over red or black because it requires that extra time in analyzing the previous numbers.
High or low
Split down the middle of the board, bet on a high number (19-36) or a low number (1-18). Both are even money bets at 1:1 but remember, the low number bet doesn’t include 0 – or 00 in American Roulette, which is the house edge. High or low bets are quick and easy to place on the table which often pays out.
Columns
A more beneficial winning bet is a column bet. A column is the length of numbers on a table. For example, column one includes the numbers 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34. This type of bet allows you to span numbers down the length of the table. Each column bet pays out at 2:1, so placing a £1 bet could win you £3.
1st 12, 2nd 12 and 3rd 12
Similar to column bets, a single third (or dozen) bet can include a wide variety of numbers that span the board. But instead of trailing down the length of the table, this type of bet splits the table into blocks. The first (1-12), second (13-24) and third (25-16) dozen, with each offering odds of 2:1.
Inside bets
Inside bets are more complicated. They have significantly lower winning odds but their pay-outs are much higher. Examples of inside bets include splits, streets, corners and five-number bets. A split bet distributes a bet across two numbers, which are neighbors on the table; whereas a street bet includes three numbers, or an entire row. Corner bets include four numbers that meet at one corner. If you’re playing American Roulette, you can also place a five-number bet (also known as a basket), which collects the numbers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3 together.
