Apple Authorized Training Provider Power Mac Center, in collaboration with Kids Can! Innovation Camp, launches emPOWER UP! Design a Better World: App Development Challenge for kids between 10-15 years old. The challenge is to use Apple technology to create solutions to current and emerging issues of the community stated in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

emPOWER UP! 2018 is accepting groups consisting of three (3) members. Proper parental consent is required. Initially, each group must record and submit a 60- to 120-second video showing their innovative and creative idea of an app that addresses a specific UN SDG.

Entry videos must be uploaded via Dropbox and registered at http://bit.ly/empowerup2018. The deadline of submission of entries is on December 31 at 11:59PM.

“Technology has a pivotal role in the creation of a better society. As today’s youth is a digital savvy generation, we created this challenge to early on instill the value of using available resources to create solutions to real world problems,” said Joey Alvarez, Power Mac Center Director of Product Management and Marketing.

Six (6) shortlisted teams will advance to the pre-competition workshop on January 12, 2019. Top industry practitioners and Apple Certified Trainers will mentor them about UN SDGs, social project creation, and Apple technology to design their app storyboards.

Teams will then be given a one-week break to focus on their proposed app storyboards before the two-day competition proper on January 19 and 20, 2019 at the PMC Business Systems, Inc. (PBSI) Main Office at 2/L Cedar Executive Bldg., Arnaiz Avenue, Makati City.

Each member of the grand winning team will receive an iPad and exclusive training from Apple Certified Trainers to develop their app and upload it to the App Store. Meanwhile, runners-up will receive up to Php 120,000 worth of Power Mac Center Gift Certificates as consolation prizes. The team with the best video pitch will also receive exclusive Power Mac Center merchandise.
