Technology firm Xiaomi unveiled in the Philippines three smartphones consisting of its latest flagship phone, Mi 8, and entry-level devices Redmi 6 and 6A.
The camera in Mi 8 was the best Xiaomi camera the company has ever put in its smartphones, having a 105 photo score from camera benchmarking organization DxOMark. Mi 8 is equipped with a 12 megapixel (MP) dual rear AI camera while its 20MP front-facing AI camera supports the pixel pinning technology which combines information from four pixels to create 1.8mm pixel for clearer photos in low light.
Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6GB RAM and 64GB and 128GB of storage variants, MI 8 runs an Android OS version based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It also comes with a dual frequency GPS which offers accurate navigation and energized by a 3,400mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge.
Mi 8 features a four-sided curved glass back panel, aviation-grade aluminum frame and a 2.5D glass screen. It also boasts of a 6.21-inch FHD+ Samsung AMOLED full screen display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio and 86.68% screen-to-body ratio. For connectivity, the phone has dual SIM (nano), Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and GPS.
Apart from these, Mi 8 is equipped with fingerprint scanner, and supports AI studio lighting, infrared face unlock, AI scene detection, and AI video editing.
To be available on July 30 at all authorized Mi stores, the 6GB + 64GB version of Mi 8 is to be sold at P25,990, while the 6GB + 128GB version will have a price tag of P27,990.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi also introduced the entry-level Redmi 6 and 6A smartphones which target the budget market. Redmi 6A is the most budget-friendly with a selling price of Php5,290 for its 2GB + 16GB version and Php5,990 for 2GB + 32GB version. On July 23, the Redmi 6A (2GB + 16GB) will be offered for Php4,990 on Shopee’s flash sale.
Redmi 6A features a 5.45-inch display and it is powered by a12nm Quad-Core MediaTek Helio A22 processor. It comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage which is expandable through a dedicated microSD slot. The device is equipped with a 13MP rear camera with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and 5MP front camera, both capable of using AI Portrait mode. It is energized by a 3,000mAh battery which allows the phone to stay in standby mode for up to 19 days.
Redmi 6, on the other hand, comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage that can be expanded via a dedicated microSD slot. It also sports a 5.45-inch display and has a 12MP+ 5MP dual camera set up with the main sensor having a 1.25mm pixel. The device’s 5MP front camera supports the AI Portrait mode, which renders bokeh effect with a single lens.
Available in Lazada on July 23, the Redmi 6 (3GB + 32GB) will be sold for only P6,990 while the 4GB + 64GB version can be bought for P8,490. The original price for 3GB + 32GB version is P7,490 while for 4GB + 64GB version, it is P8,990.
Both the Redmi 6 and 6A will also be available at all authorized Mi stores in August.
