PC assembler Lenovo has rolled out an armada of slimmer and lighter 8th-Generation Lenovo ThinkPads and ThinkStations which addresses the changes in the workspace spurred by younger and much more mobile generation of workers.
An IDC study called Enabling the Future Workspace – Agile, Intelligent and Engaging, showed that Asia’s millennials, which represent over 50% of the workforce by 2020, will drive changes in workspaces across Asia-Pacific, excluding Japan. With this in mind, Lenovo is launching new workstations to assist local enterprises in future-proofing their workplace.
“A new, faster style of work by a younger generation of workers has given birth to the hybrid workspaces of today where achieving maximum efficiency and productivity is the goal. Gone are the days of the conventional office setup where employees sit at the same desk on the same floor of the same building,” said Michael Ngan, country general manager at Lenovo Philippines.
Introduced in the event were ThinkPads X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga, L380, X280, T480, and T480S. These workstations, together with ThinkPad E480, and ThinkStations P520C and P520, are equipped with a host of features designed for today’s workforce.
Powered by Intel’s 15W processor, ThinkPads offer added protection with their new security features that include match-on-sensor touch fingerprint readers, IR cameras for facial recognition access, and a physical Webcam covers for privacy. The Intel Core vPro feature of their processors also adds another layer of protection with its remote encryption management that enables users to unlock encrypted hard drives and reset encryption passwords.
The 8th-Generation processors boast an Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 which controls power and speed to help boost performance while saving energy. It also features the Intel Hyper-Threading Technology designed for multi-tasking.
These new ThinkPads are also equipped with USB-C power adapters intended for universal charging. They also have a docking design with a slide-to-connect mechanism that works with most 12-, 14-, and 15-inch ThinkPads, making them backward compatible.
The new Lenovo ThinkPads were made thinner and lighter than their predecessors to enhance portability. These devices also went through rigorous evaluation for the Mil-SPEC 810G military standard that includes 10 durability tests on humidity, low temperature, high vibration, and high altitude.
On the other hand, the new ThinkStations P520 and P520C are equipped with the latest Intel Xeon processors and NVIDIA Quadro graphics suited for computer-aided drafting or 3D animation software environments. They also have Tri-Channel Cooling technology that manages internal air flow and power supply.
The ThinkPad E480 and L380 are locally available at a price of Php45,980 and Php64,990. The following ThinkPads and ThinkStations with their corresponding price will be available on April 2018: ThinkPad X280 – Php85,990; ThinkPad T480 – Php86,990; ThinkPad T480S – Php96,990; ThinkPad X1 Carbon – Php99,990; ThinkPad X1 Yoga – Php110,990; ThinkStation P520C – Php115,990; ThinkStation P520 – Php137,990.
