Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium is getting an OS upgrade. The Android 8.0 Oreo update is now available for Sony’s flagship smartphone but it also goes beyond the usual as it brings with it cool new features.
Once XZ Premium users switch to the new OS, they will now have the 3D Creator that was previously available only for the XZ1. This feature allows users to scan in four modes: face, head, food, or free-form. It renders 3D avatars or images in less than 60 seconds—making it easy to share on social media, with friends or hook it up to a 3D printer and print souvenirs.
Another enhanced feature that comes with the OS update is the Predictive Capture which detects smiles even before pressing the shutter button. It then allows users to pick the best from a selection of up to four shots. The smartphone will also have the Autofocus Burst which recognizes, tracks, and captures sequences of moving objects and ensures blur-free action shots.
Rounding out the new features that comes with the XZ Premium’s OS update includes improved sound quality with tuning improvements to the stereo speakers, and Qualcomm® aptX™ HD audio, and easy access to action menus through long pressing of the app icon.
Users will get a prompt that the upgrade is ready and can be done via Wi-Fi. The Android 8.0 Oreo update is not exclusive to XZ Premium users only. Soon, it will available for the Xperia X, Xperia XZ and XZs, XA1, XA1 Ultra, XA1 Plus, and the Xperia Touch. However, the added new features with the XZ Premium update will not be available for these other units.
