“Canon is not only surviving in spite of the onslaught of smartphones but we are actually doing better,” said Lim Kok Hin, president and CEO at Canon Marketing Philippines.

Despite the dismal performance of compact entry-level cameras globally, Lim Kok Hin said CMPI’s sales grew by a double digit rate last year when there was bigger demand for taking pictures as more people bought more cameras and accessories compared with previous years.

This year, as Canon is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the Philippines, it is expected to introduce new products to help meet the imaging and printing needs of Filipino customers. Some of new product lines the company will launch include the new PowerShot G9 X Mark II. An addition to the PowerShot G Series line of premium digital compact cameras, the G9 X Mark II camera features the DIGIC 7 image processor. The new PowerShot SX430 IS, a high zoom compact camera designed for landscape and distance photography, and the ultra-compact IXUS 190 and IXUS 185 for everyday photography, will also be unveiled.

The PIXMA Ink Efficient G4000 with WiFi and Fax, an upgrade to the G series printers with its integrated ink tank design; and the newest additions to the link of Ink Efficient All-in-One printers, the PIXMA Ink Efficient E410 and E470, are also expected to be unveiled.

CMPI also announced new assignments and additions to its local management team. Kristine Dacanay, who is previously CMPI’s marketing manager for Business Imaging Solutions and Production Printing Group, is now the overall marketing communication manager. In addition, Benny Yu joins the company as the new head of CMPI’s consumer group.

CMPI also announced that it is offering basic photography trainings where 1,500 interested persons have already joined the photography sessions. It will also introduce in the Philippines this year the Photo Marathon.
