Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) has unveiled the ePLDT VITRO Data Center Makati, the country’s biggest and state-of-the-art data center to serve organizations, particularly those handling vital data such as banks, BPOs, IT and content providers, and government.
Built on a two-hectare property along Nicanor Garcia Street, the data center – the seventh in the Philippines – has a 3,600-rack capacity. It is equipped with systems and facilities that guarantee continuous operations, ensuring that businesses can utilize scalable digital infrastructure, as well as 24/7 technical support capabilities.
“The data center serves as the critical foundation for the emerging data enterprise of the future,” said Eric Alberto, PLDT Executive Vice President and ePLDT President and CEO. “We have a country mission to fulfill. We are determined to make this country become more competitive through technology.
The data center is built and operated based on international specifications. The facility stands on a place where there is no seismic fault within its proximity. Its architecture and material can withstand earthquakes of up to intensity 8 in the Richter scale. It also has fire-rated walls and partitions, and flood-protected design that complied with global design standards.
“PLDT recognizes how vital it is for enterprises to ensure stable operations despite changes in the external environment. The need for scalable and secure hosting facilities to house and manage critical platforms is also growing in importance as the enterprise becomes more data-driven as a result of continuous digital transformation initiatives,” said Alberto.
The VITRO Data Center boasts of an eight-layer security design which guarantees the protection of data and applications, making it one of the nation’s most secure structures. High-definition CCTV cameras were also installed to monitor the center.
A Nexcenter-certified facility, the VITRO Data Center Makati allows its clients to use globally standardized Nexcenter services of NTT Com at some 140 locations in 84 cities of 19 countries.
Apart from this Makati-based data center, PLDT will also put up other facilities in the country.
“In a few weeks from now, our eighth data center will rise in Clark. There will also facilities in Cebu and Davao,” said Alberto. “By yearend, we are confident that we will nearly quadruple our original capacity from four years ago. By the end of 2017, we are expecting our sites to have 10,000-rack capacity.”
These facilities enable the company in creating its own business portfolio that leverages on SMAC (social, mobility, analytics, cloud). These are digital innovations that allow large enterprises and SMEs to become globally competitive in today’s digital market.
