Cloudera launched in Phl to offer data management and analytics

This is the reason why Cloudera entered the Philippine market, as it eyes to offer a platform for data management and analytics by providing Apache Hadoop platform to help businesses deal with data-related concerns.

Jonathan Limbo (right), head of Cloudera Philippines, says that with the amount of data that we now have, the "challenge is how you address such a big amount of data." To this end, Cloudera wants to be able to help organizations derive value from their data. With Limbo is Daniel Ng, APAC senior director of Cloudera.

With data now a currency in business, “the challenge is no longer about the data you collect, but what you will do with the data you collect,” said Daniel Ng, senior director for APAC of Cloudera Enterprise.

This is the reason why Cloudera entered the Philippine market, as it eyes to offer a platform for data management and analytics by providing Apache Hadoop platform to help businesses deal with data-related concerns.

Hadoop – which was started in 2006 by Doug Cutting, currently chief architect at Cloudera – is an ecosystem of open source components that help transform raw data into useful and meaningful information, allowing businesses and organizations to draw deeper conclusions and derive insights from these.

Powered by the Hadoop distribution, Cloudera “is the first and only proactive and predictive support for Hadoop,” said Ng. “We can help you deal with (data) – we can store it, analyze it, and give it to you to be able to use it to make decisions.”

Ng said that in 2014, big data technology and services was worth $16.5 billion, and this is projected to grow to $41.5 billion in 2018. This highlights that while big data analytics is important because “without analytics, you won’t be able to use (data).”

Unfortunately, added Ng, while the need to leverage big data for insights is growing universally, the general awareness of the benefits of extracting value from data is still a challenge for many in the Asia Pacific region.

All the same, “the Philippines is now matured enough as a market,” Ng said.

Jonathan Limbo, Cloudera Philippines’ head for sales and business development, said that what differentiates Cludera from other companies also offering data analytics are their focus on “security, performance and ease of management.”

Cloudera offers SQL with Impala and support for the Spark framework; while the new Kudu storage engine is the first to enable analytics on real-time data. Cloudera Navigator Optimizer also helps customers put data and workloads in proper system and format.

Cloudera also makes Hadoop easy to manage on premise and in the public cloud through Cloudera Manager and Cloudera Director.

For security, Cloudera also offers unique encryption, fine-grained data access protection, and full audit and lineage capabilities.

“Again, the business challenge now is how you address the big amount of data. To this end, Cloudera wants to be able to help organizations derive value from their data,” Limbo said.

Already, Cloudera is eyeing the telcos and finance industry as key areas of growth in the country; though as Ng stressed, “any business that sees data from an angle where you can make decisions could benefit from Cloudera.”
