To help tourists and returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have connectivity during their stay in the Philippines, Globe Telecom partnered with the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) of the Department of Tourism to offer the Traveler SIM, a local prepaid SIM.
To avail of the free Traveler SIM, tourists and OFWs need to present their passport or OFW E-Card at the Globe booths in NAIA, Cebu, Kalibo, Iloilo, and Clark International Airports; or reserve via www.globe.com.ph/traveler-sim/reserve-now.
Users of Globe Traveler SIM can receive calls and texts from abroad for free and reduce costs on mobile data by subscribing to TravelSurf that allows them to surf the Internet on mobile for $11 for seven days or $23 for 30 days, providing them access to e-mails, social networking sites, apps, and travel blogs and reviews. They can also call abroad for $0.40 per minute.
Globe Traveler SIM usage from August to November last year showed that 90% of users visited the Philippines for vacation, with Korea, China and Singapore as countries with the most number of visitors. Ninety seven percent of Traveler SIM users used data while 85% used it for local calls.
The partnership also aimed at promoting the Philippines as one of Asia’s top tourist destination through the Visit the Philippines Again (VPA) 2016 campaign.
In addition to supporting the VPA2016 campaign, Globe also launched Relive Wonderful Philippines, a video contest where foreign visitors (non-Philippine residents and OFWs) are urged to submit a video showcasing why they love the Philippines and what they want to do in the country again. The winner will win a ticket to fly back to the Philippines with a companion, with hotel accommodation and allowance from Globe.
A DOT report showed that the country registered a total 2.6-million tourists from January to June 2015 with total earnings of Php111.05-billion generated from various tourism activities.
