Synology Inc. launched the DiskStation DS216, a 2-bay NAS server specially designed for sharing and protecting data within workgroups and offices.
The DS216 is built to deliver an optimal multi-tasking experience, with the best price/performance ratio. Powered by a dual-core 1.3 GHz CPU and 512 MB DDR3 memory, the DS216 outperforms its predecessor and delivers read and write speeds of more than 111 MB/s, under RAID 1 configuration, in a Windows environment.
Additionally, the built-in Floating-Point Unit (FPU) improves the overall capability of the DS216’s main CPU – making it ideal for speeding up thumbnail processing, and enhancing photo viewing at different resolutions. With an encryption engine, it also offloads encryption calculations away from the main CPU, helping to improve file transfer speeds. The DS216 is also equipped with a USB 3.0 port and a USB copy button on the front panel for easy data transfer.
Designed for non-stop, up-time service, the DS216 is equipped with hot-swappable and tool-less drive trays for easy installation that simplifies drive replacement and maintenance.
The DS216 runs on the DiskStation Manager (DSM), and features a range of applications from backup to network management.
The Synology DiskStation DS216 is now shipping globally.
