E-commerce is fast accelerating in the Philippines, driven by the growing use of Internet and mobile devices that has led to an increasing online consumer base.
“E-commerce is growing quite fast in the last four years since its entry in the Philippines,” said Inanc Balci, Chief Executive Officer at Lazada Philippines. “It is early days of e-commerce here. There’s a huge market to be penetrated and we are really excited to be part of its growth.”
As e-commerce becomes very successful this year, Balci expects the same direction to happen next year.
“2015 has been very successful for e-commerce. The market has grown several times and for next year, we are waiting for same thing to happen – to have a record market growth.”
Balci attributed this growth to the country’s growing economy and to the increasing trend in online shopping and consumer base.
“People continue spanning their disposable income but at the same time, people are getting used to the idea of shopping online. More and more, people try and keep buying online so the growth of e-commerce will continue, Balci said.
Balci also noted that Lazada welcomes the entry of new e-commerce companies as it can help the market to grow.
“Lazada is the dominant market leader as it has 80% share of the market. Our target is to continue our market leadership position and we are more than happy for the entry of new companies in the market. We believe that their entry will help the market grow.”
