Apple’s smart watch, the Apple Watch, is now in the Philippines and is available at Power Mac Center branches.
The watch has three editions: Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition. Each edition is available in two sizes: 38 and 42 millimeters.
The Apple Watch Sport, starting at Php19,990, has an anodized aluminum case in silver or space gray, and sports an Ion-X glass.
The Apple Watch comes in a shiny chrome or space black finish. Its touchscreen is covered by sapphire crystal. Prices range from Php30,990 to Php61,990.
The Apple Watch Edition sports an 18-karat gold casing in yellow or rose and costs Php960,000. It is available exclusively at Power Mac Center Greenbelt 3 in Makati.
Unfortunately, you need an iPhone to pair with your Apple Watch, but it doesn’t have to be the brand-new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. It will work with an iPhone 5, 5s, or 5c, as long as it is running iOS 9.1 or iOS 9.0.2.
While you can control the Apple Watch with the touchscreen, there is a dial that sticks out the side–the Digital Crown–which you can turn to scroll through a list or zoom in and out. Pressing the Crown returns you to the watch’s home screen.
Beside the Digital Crown is a button that lets you access the Friends app to make a call or send a message.
The Apple Watch is not only a smart watch but a fitness tracker as well. The watch comes pre-installed with two apps: Activity and Workout, which use an accelerometer that counts your steps. Activity shows your progress toward daily goals for moving, exercising, and even standing. Workouts tracks a variety of activities, including distance, pace, time, and calories burned during each session.
Apple Watch Apps
Apps that come pre-installed in the Apple Watch include Mail, Messages, Calendar, Maps, Weather, Passbook, Music, Photos, and more. While the Apple Watch doesn’t have a built-in camera, it can serve as a viewfinder for your iPhone’s camera, letting you snap pictures and even set the self-timer.
The watch doesn’t have a Safari browser. But it supports third-party apps, such as Instagram and Twitter, which you can install from the Apple Watch App Store, which is accessible through the Apple Watch app.
The watch face can be customized in a lot of ways, ranging from traditional analog, to beautifully animated butterflies and jellyfish, to the information-rich modes. A full range of straps and bands in stainless steel, leather, and fluoroelastomer can also be easily interchanged.
The Apple Watch has near-field communication, or NFC, technology, just like the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.
