Isabela’s Cauayan aims to become a full-fledged digitally-enabled city

Cauayan, Isabela is closer to becoming a full-fledged digitally-enabled city through innovative solutions using information and communications technology (ICT).

A partnership with Globe Telecom seeks to provide enhanced connectedness, convenience, and new opportunities for Cauayeños. This shall be brought to life through several initiatives which include: WiFi enablement of key public locations and mobile libraries; SMS management platform to augment DOST’s Juan Time infrastructure for streamlined communications across barangays; SME Day to showcase local digital solutions for entrepreneurs; and automated school enrollment via Klaseko, a startup company which provides schools a platform for online enrollment and tuition payment.

“Cauayan City’s vision to uplift public service through digital innovation is truly remarkable. We are honored that the City has entrusted us to accelerate this undertaking. By working on this goal together, we hope to further help empower the Cauayenos and to truly create a wonderful world for them,” said Glenn Z. Estrella, Globe Vice President for Digital Media.

Cauayan Mayor Bernard Faustino M. Dy, on the other hand said: “A major initiative of the City Government of Cauayan, Isabela is incorporating ICT to enhance our performance in providing basic services to our dear Cauayeños. With such big task, we are highly grateful to have found our partner in Globe Telecom to make this happen. We believe that with Globe, we can advance from our humble beginnings to become the Ideal City of the North.”

Being hailed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) as the first “smarter city” in the country, Cauayan has been making waves for putting in place ICT infrastructure in public service and governance.

ICT-based technologies being implemented currently by Cauayan City include the following: systematic and computerized police clearance process; mobile library with laptops and internet connection; Cauayan City Patrol; Electronic Government Application System or eGAPS, a mobile app for iOS or android-based phones containing tourist information; Cauayan City Identification System which serves as a valid government ID; and an interactive government website (http://cityofcauayan.gov.ph/) featuring e-services.
