TheKard Inc. launched to the public Mobkard, an app that offers location-based shopping services. Mobkard has over 200 merchant partners all over the Philippines, including Vans, LayBare, 360 Fitness Club, Bizu Patisserie, Nurture Wellness Spa, MedExpress, Sunglass Haven, and Dillinger’s.
According to Francis Uy, CEO and co-founder of TheKard Inc., Mobkard comes right in time because of the “age of mobile generation.” The number of smartphone users is estimated to reach 60 million, with 52.8 million of them under the age of 40. This is the market with the buying power that is being targeted by Mobkard.
“Everyone loves a good deal, and sometimes many consumers miss out on discounts and other privileges simply because they are not aware of them when they enter a particular store,” Uy said. “We hope that with Mobkard, we bring this wealth of knowledge closer to users through… their mobile phones.”
Uy added that with Mobkard, “there’s no more need to carry discount vouchers or loyalty cards around.”
Mobkard was initially funded by IdeaSpace, with additional funding provided by Globaltronics Inc. The capital reached P17 million, which TheKard Inc. eyes to recover from ad fees from the participating merchants. The company also partnered with alumni organizations that now have custom-made Mobkard services to offer their members; these organizations are also charged for the services by TheKard Inc.
Mobkard may be downloaded from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
