Cloud computing enables Philippine Business Bank’s rapid expansion

The Philippine Business Bank (PBB) has transformed its IT systems into a private cloud service delivery model with the implementation of an IBM Storwize V7000. IBM Storwize 7000 will help PBB improve the performance and scalability of its technology infrastructure, resulting in reduced  administrative and capital costs.

PBB is the 5th largest thrift bank in the Philippines in terms of asset size. The bank has embarked on an expansion program in the recent years and has 121 branches to date.

To accelerate new product delivery and enhance collaboration among customers, employees and partners, PBB needed to future-proof its business with an efficient IT infrastructure that can minimize technology risks and operating costs.

PBB partnered with IBM, its IT innovation partner, to setup the foundation for a private cloud strategy that would address performance and capacity needs while supporting the company’s rapid business expansion. The company now implements virtualization and private cloud service delivery model for their core banking systems and other mission critical applications.

The number of PBB branches grew double-digit since the private cloud was implemented, without any disruption during the transformation.

“PBB is probably the only thrift bank in the Philippines that has gone this far in the use of cloud computing to deliver fiscal and operational effectiveness. The private cloud has enabled PBB to deliver a cost competitive enterprise-wide technology infrastructure solution that contributes to lower cost of operations and competitive pricing,” said Keith Chan, First Vice-President, Information and Technology Group, Philippine Business Bank.

To create an even more efficient cloud delivery model, PBB streamlined its infrastructure through consolidation and virtualization. The cloud strategy enabled the bank’s technology group to become more service-oriented when provisioning computing resources for front-line employees that in return delivers enhanced customer service.

“By leveraging technology breakthroughs in the IBM Storwize V7000, we help customers accelerate their enterprise transformation journey while making the most out of their investment,” said Luis Pineda, President and Country General Manager, IBM Philippines.

PBB has been invited to showcase its cloud transformation program in the Asian Financial Services Congress by IDC Financial Insights in Singapore; Bank Branch of the Future Conference by IBN International in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Data Center Dynamics APAC Conference in Singapore; Cloud Expo Asia Conference 2014, co-hosted by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore; and Data Centre World and Cloud Expo 2015 in London.
