To prepare customers towards a software-defined environment by embracing both new innovations and the traditional workloads, Dell has launched future-ready IT solutions that include new converged infrastructure architecture, storage solutions and workload-specific appliances that help them transform their data centers and businesses.
DELL POWEREDGE FX
Dubbed as a new generation converged architecture, the Dell PowerEdge FX is a 2U enclosure with six new PowerEdge servers, storage and network IOA sleds built specifically to fit into the FX2 chassis, supporting varying workloads. Packed with integrated management capabilities, the FX architecture enables users to easily configure, manage and add capacity to complete workload specific blocks of IT resources.
The platform, which scales linearly and reduces the impact of an outage, provides efficiencies of shared power, I/O and management, integrated switching, and unsurpassed overall density capabilities of up to 40 2-socket servers in 10U. Based on Dell’s recent PowerEdge 13th generation server portfolio announcement, the next generation PowerEdge FX2 also includes advanced systems management capabilities to reduce operational complexity and simplify data center management.
The PowerEdge FX infrastructure including PowerEdge FX2 chassis and initial sleds (FC630, FM120x4) is now available through Dell channel partners, while the PowerEdge FX architecture sleds including the FD332, FN IOA, FC430, FC830 will be released in the first half of 2015.
DELL STORAGE SC SERIES
Dell also introduced a new Dell Storage SC series all-flash array configuration which offers substantial performance improvement over spinning disk solutions. It also provides a more economical starting point for flash performance to support demanding applications. Priced at US$25,000, this makes SC series one of the industry’s lowest-entry priced all-flash enterprise arrays.
Ideal for workloads ranging from VDI, to SQL or Oracle OLTR, the Dell SC4020 entry-level all-flash configuration has over 400TB maximum storage capacity and sufficient density to host 10,000 MS Exchange mailboxes in a 2U chassis.
To have an even greater performance, SC4020 can seamlessly expand to create a Flash-Optimized solution with Dell’s intelligent data placement software by adding one or more tiers of spinning disk to the same array.
The SC4020 entry-level all-flash configuration, which is going to be available in early 2015, has 24 drive days and can scale up to a maximum of 120 drives and can mix hard drives and SSDs in a hybrid configuration.
DELL STORAGE PS4210 SERIES
Another infrastructure Dell has launched was the Dell Storage PS4210 series, an ideal storage array to overcome challenges of small-to-medium virtualized data centers and remote offices. These new easy-to-use, scale-out PS series are designed to be fully compatible and interoperable with all previous Dell EqualLogic PS series arrays.
Available now, the PS4210 series, with a new hybrid model, can help respond quickly to customer needs as they offer up to six times improved performance compared with the previous generation, delivering up to 800,000 IOPS.
A 2014 ESG lab report showed that over a five-year period, the Dell PS series has the lowest TCO for small- and large-sized storage configurations – costing up to 58% less – compared with other IT storage vendors.
Providing enterprises capabilities in five models, the entry-level PS4210 10GbE iSCSI arrays boast a more powerful controller with double the cache memory, twice the number of ports, and up to six times performance improvement with new hybrid arrays compared with the previous generation arrays.
DELL XC SERIES
The company also introduced the XC series of Web-scale Converged Appliances which integrates compute, storage and hypervisor resources into a single offering.. Powered by Nutanix software, the SC series offer enterprise-class storage for virtualized server and VDI environment with simple deployment, management and scale as needed.
With Nutanix software in place, HDDs and SSDs can be aggregated across all nodes, with automatic compression and deduplication to increase effective storage capacity.
Available in five models intended to support different workloads, the XC series can help users manage their virtual environment at a VM level using policies based on the needs of each workload. This is ideal for virtual desktop infrastructure, high performance server virtualization, and data centers with multiple hypervisors deployed.
The Dell XC series of Web-scale Converged Appliance is available in selected countries with support for VMware ESXi and Microsoft Windows Hyper V.
