High-impact technologies, health and fitness tools, high-grade products, scientific experts, technopreneurs, and young science aficionados, will all come together for one week at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, as the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) opens the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) on July 24, 2014.
With the theme, “Philippines: A Science Nation Meeting Global Challenges,” NSTW will run until July 28 for a week filled with amazing interactive exhibits, audio-visual presentations, robotics challenge and other relevant materials and activities showcasing local capabilities in science and technology (S&T).
The opening ceremony on July 24 will be followed by a forum on emerging technologies, and a round table discussion on the ASEAN integration in 2015, among others.
The rest of the five-day event will include an IT-BPM career talk for fresh college graduates and professionals wanting to explore their options, a bio camp, Scholars’ Night, speed networking sessions, and other fora on timely subjects such as e-government, eHealth, product packaging, health and nutrition, alternate election system, and livelihood.
Also to be held is the 2014 National Invention Contests and Exhibits (NICE) awarding ceremony on July 27. NICE is a bi-annual competition of promising inventions by Filipinos in the student and professional levels. The finalists earned the right to compete by winning in their respective categories during the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits in the various regions of the Philippines.
Another highlight is the “Smart Innovation for MSMEs” on July 25 featuring successful entrepreneurs whose micro, small and medium enterprises have experienced tremendous growth with the help of S&T.
An annual project of DOST, NSTW is a show window for Filipino ingenuity, innovation and S&T developments as well as a platform for promoting S&T as a key driver of economic development. Admission is free.
