Globe Telecom claims it has achieved 100% 3G coverage for its entire network, and expects to fully equip its network with the more advanced 4G infrastructure with HSPA+ technology by the end of the third quarter.
The rollout of both 3G and 4G HSPA+ infrastructure for the entire Globe network forms part of the company’s transformation efforts. Putting in a brand new access, transport and core network nationwide, the transformation enhanced coverage in major points of convergence and provided a more reliable network, not only for messaging and voice-calls, but especially for fast Internet connection, says the company.
“With a 100% 3G network, we now have a robust capacity for high-speed mobile data access. Providing our network with full HSPA+ coverage in 90 days will provide an even faster mobile Internet experience,” Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu said, adding that the combined 3G and 4G infrastructure of Globe Telecom will further drive mobile data explosion in the country amid rising demand for smartphones.
According to Cu, Globe Telecom’s transformation initiative also enhanced in-building coverage in major malls, hotels, hospitals, major highways and airports, further enriching customer experience.
“The benefits of staying connected have never been greater, leading to the growing prevalence of smartphones and other mobile devices. People are able to experience high-speed Interne, allowing them to stay connected to their homes and offices anytime and anywhere, making it so much easier for our customers to stay productive even when doing many other things,” Cu said.
To further expand its coverage across the nation, Globe is also building more 3G and 4G cell sites. By the end of the year, Globe Telecom’s total number of cell sites is expected to exceed 6,500.
Partnership with Lotus F1
Meanwhile, Globe has announced it has teamed up with Formula One racing team Lotus F1 Team to bring to life its new and modern network.
With the partnership, Globe becomes the exclusive business partner of the Lotus F1 team in the country and telecommunication partner of Filipino-Swiss Marlon Stockinger, the first Formula One racer to have placed the Philippines on the F1 radar.
Stockinger’s impressive track performance, particularly his first place finish at the Monaco leg of Gran Prix 3 series in 2012, earned him a spot in the Lotus F1 Junior Team. He and six other promising drivers joined the Junior Team in February 2013 to undergo rigorous training that will boost their wellness and performance on their journey to competing in Formula One races. Currently, Stockinger is competing in the Renault World Series, a major step towards qualifying for F1 events.
To celebrate the partnership, Stockinger will fly to Manila on August 30, 2014 to lead the Globe Speed Day at the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig.
The event will feature Stockinger showing off his track skills driving his Lotus-Gravity Charouz Formula Renault 3.5 race car around BGC. It is also set to be packed with thrill and excitement as Lotus F1 simulators, booths, freebies, and games in partner-establishments around BGC await racing aficionados.
“We are excited to mark another milestone in Globe as we unveil our now 100% 3G-powered network and soon 100% 4G HSPA+ network to provide our customers the fastest and most seamless browsing experience nationwide. In line with this, we are bringing together one of the worlds fastest sports headlined by the one of the fastest-driving young drivers in the world, happening at the country’s fastest-developing business hub,” said Globe Telecom Chief Operating Advisor Peter Bithos.
