Attracted by the country’s talented workforce, Emerson Process Management has opened a new engineering and customer service facility in the Philippines.
Considered as its biggest shared service facility, Emerson’s new investments in the Philippines cost $20 million.
The new shared service center is located in a 10,000-square meter expanse at the 19th floor of the Cyberspace Alpha Building in Ortigas Center, Pasig City.
“We are here because we find well-educated and skilled workforce with a very professional attitude,” said Edward L. Monser, Emerson’s President and Chief Operating Officer. “The Philippines is an important contributor in the company’s engineering and global support network and we continue to see our activities to grow here,” Monser said.
The company’s infusion of new investments in the Philippines was also attributed to its supportive and friendly business climate which encourages Emerson to continue to invest; efficient education system; and the solid government policy.
The Manila center is intended to support sale of its automation technologies and engineering services in Asia-Pacific and around the world. It will support functions such as engineering, product development and testing, project execution, operations support, customer support, sales, accounting, information technology, human resources, marketing and supply chain.
Emerson has a manpower pool of approximately 700 at the facility that provide technology solutions for a global business. Of the total, almost 500 are engineers.
Based on current plans, the number of personnel is expected to reach nearly 1,000 by 2017. “I believe our new employees will enjoy this new working environment very much,” Monser said.
Talent development
The company also has plans of developing partnership with leading local universities to share their technology and develop talents.
The Philippine-based facility is Emerson’s fourth and newest regional engineering center for project execution. The other centers are located in India, Costa Rica and Romania.
Together these facilities create a global network of project execution excellence and Emerson is helping their customers operate and manage large industrial plants for the oil and gas, refining, chemicals, power generation, life sciences, food and beverages, and metals and mining sectors safely, reliably and efficiently.
“In order to provide the engineering resources our customers need, our employee headcount has doubled over the past four years and we needed more space to expand,” said Terry Krouth, Vice President and General Manager of Emerson Process Management’s Manila team. “The work we do in Manila is key to helping our customers automate their production, processing and distribution facilities and operate and manage for safety, productivity and profitability. Our multi-lingual professional staff is available around the clock, solving customer problems whenever and wherever they arise.”
