Amazon’s top tech honcho to speak before local startup community

Amazon.com Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Dr. Werner Vogels is set to speak before local tech startup companies to help them determine the best low cost and easy-to-use infrastructure necessary to scale and grow their businesses.

Vogels is the special guest at the Kickstart Ventures, Inc.’s Startup Mixer, a regular community event that stimulates interaction and collaboration among startup founders, mentors, and investors, to be held at The Globe Tower in Bonifacio Global City on April 30.

Minette Navarrete, President of Kickstart Ventures, said: “We are excited about the visit of Dr. Werner Vogels who is Amazon’s number two guy.  It only shows Amazon’s strong belief in the Philippines as a growing market for cloud services. Being responsible for driving Amazon’s technology vision, Vogels’ vast experience and knowledge is expected to benefit local startups which are always exploring ways to leverage and monetize digital media services and social networking.

Vogels will talk about Amazon Web Services (AWS), a broad set of global compute, storage, database, analytics, application, and deployment services that help organizations move faster, lower IT costs, and scale applications. These services power a wide variety of workloads including web and mobile applications, data processing and warehousing, storage, archive, among others.

All 17 startups under Kickstart’s portfolio currently enjoys USD2,500 worth of free credits from AWS which they can use in whatever way they want.  Better performing startups also get an additional USD5,000 worth of credits.

Aside from AWS, Vogels will also discuss the 2014 trends coming out of Silicon Valley and how startups can learn and gain from them.

Prior to joining Amazon, Vogels worked as a researcher at Cornell University where he was a principal investigator in several research projects that target the scalability and robustness of mission-critical enterprise computing systems. He has held positions of VP of Technology and CTO in companies that handled the transition of academic technology into industry.
