Canon introduces new PowerShot, Ixus digital cameras

Canon has introduced a host of new compact digital cameras under the PowerShot and IXUS ranges. The company also unveiled its latest lineup of PIXMA home and business printers.

Canon has introduced a host of new compact digital cameras under the PowerShot and IXUS families. The company also unveiled its latest lineup of PIXMA home and business printers.

The compact digital cameras consist of PowerShot G1 X Mark II, PowerShot SX700 HS, PowerShot D30, IXUS 155 and IXUS 145.

On the printer segment, the newest additions are home printers PIXMA iP2870 and PIXMA Ink Efficient E400; office printers PIXMA MX477 and PIXMA iX6770, and the Wi-Fi printers which include PIXMA Ink Efficient E560, PIXMA MG5570, and PIXMA iP8770.

The flagship model PowerShot G1 X Mark II camera boasts a large 1.5” type CMOS sensor, which is approximately 4.5 times larger than the size of existing 1/1.7” type sensors in other compact cameras, providing high performance from low to high ISO speeds.

Canon also developed a new large aperture lens (F/2.0-3.9) equipped with 5x zoom lens (24-120mm equivalent) for this camera.

Possessing a high-end DIGIC 6 imaging processor, the 12.8-megapixel PowerShot G1 X is highly recommended for those who like to take “selfies” or extremely high or low angle shots with its unique tilt designs  (that can be tilted up to 180 degrees or down to 45 degrees) for its touchscreen LCD. This provides users flexibility while framing shots. For preserving battery life and easier shoot in bright daylight, an optional Electronic View Finder (EVF) can be attached to the hot shoe.

Through Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, PowerShot G1 X can be connected with other smart devices by pushing the Mobile Connect button on one camera then tap another NFC-enabled device. Users can then control the camera remotely via the Camera Window app which can make focusing changes and basic setting adjustments like exposure and ISO speed.

An advanced zoom camera intended for travelers, PowerShot SX700 HS boasts of a sleek 34.8mm body that is slimmer than few of its competitors in the compact 30x zoom class. It ensures great-looking long distance shots with its advanced DIGIC 6 imaging processor and a cutting-edge zoom lens. Its ZoomPlus feature pushes the zoom distance to approximately 60x without having any loss in image quality.

To prevent the camera from shaking, it has an Optical Image Stabilizer capability, and to help users track subjects and take them in frame, the camera has a Zoom Framing Assist function. For an easier sharing of files and shoot remotely with smart devices, SX700 HS has a Wi-Fi and NFC technology while ensuring Full HD video recording at either super-smooth 60p or 30p in MP4 compression format.

Sporting a 28mm wide angle lens with 5x optical zoom, the 12.1-megapixel PowerShot D30 is the world’s deepest 25m waterproof compact camera. It can take rich high-resolution underwater photos and full HD videos at 24p with its DIGIC 4 imaging processor and High Sensitivity system. When dropped from heights of up to two meters and operates at cold temperatures down to -10 degrees Celsius, D30 can resist shock and it has an Image Stabilizer that prevents image blur caused by shaky hands.

IXUS 155
A 20-megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom lens and a Zoomplus to approximately 20x zoom, IXUS 155 features an improved intelligent IS function, enhanced start-up and auto-focusing time for an easier usage. When it is combined with upgraded DIGIC 4+ imaging processor and a CCD sensor, its processing time improves by up to 60% when shooting at high ISO speeds.

IXUS 145
Canon’s 16-megapixel IXUS 145 is packed with a simple interface which makes taking shots easier while its megapixel count and 8x optical zoom is suitable in taking shots in concerts, plays or even a football game. With its DIGIC 4+ imaging processor, IXUS 145 promises improved photo shots and can record movies in HD quality at 720p.

PIXMA iP2870
Aside from digital cameras, Canon also launched seven new additions to the ever-growing PIXMA line of printers. Foremost among these printers is the PIXMA iP2870, an affordable and compact single-function printer with a maximum resolution of 4800 dpi that is appropriate for everyday’s use at home.

PIXMA Ink Efficient E400 and E560
PIXMA Ink Efficient E400 is the most affordable model in the PIXMA Ink Efficient lineup which can print, scan and copy documents. It can print up to 400 monochrome documents and up to 300 pages in color. An all-in-one printer for everyday use at home, it can print up to 1,100 pages per ink cartridge set.

Another printer under the Ink Efficient segment is the PIXMA Ink Efficient E560, which can print, scan and copy documents or photos and with Wi-Fi capability. The E560 can print up to 800 monochrome documents on a black cartridge and up to 300 pages for color documents. When paired with the new Canon PIXMA Printing Solutions app, users of this printer can print or scan documents and photos using an iPhone, iPad, iPad Mini or any mobile device based on the Android OS, over a local wireless network.

The E560 is also a cloud-aware device which makes printing possible from anywhere mobility when paired with Google Cloud Print service. When out of the office, users can print through the Gmail or Google Docs interface on a mobile device, or from the Google Chrome Web browser on PCs and laptops running on Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Chrome OSes.

Both printers are compatible with new high-yield ink cartridges and offers reduced printing costs compared with conventional laser printers. The PIXMA Ink Efficient E400 and PIXMA Ink Efficient E560 are both available in the market with a suggested retail price of Php3,695 and Php5,495, respectively.

PIXMA MX477
Offering all-in-one print-copy-scan-fax solutions, the PIXMA MX477 is an affordable printer for businessmen who are always on the go. The printer delivers enhanced productivity in the home or office with its range of wireless and cloud printing features – PIXMA Cloud Link, Google Cloud Print, PIXMA Printing Solutions App, and Wi-Fi connectivity. It is also equipped with integrated automatic document feeders that can perform hands-free automatic scanning and copying for up to 30 sheets of document originals. MX477, which is priced at Php5,995, comes with two-ink FINE cartridges, a scan resolution of 1200×2400 dpi, 4800×600 dpi print resolution and a full-dot LCD screen.

Another office printer is the PIXMA iX6770 which is designed to print high-resolution spreadsheets, CAD drawings and other documents up to A3+ size. A single-function printer, iX6770 is equipped with a print resolution of up to 9600×2400 dpi and five individual inks that can come out with high-quality prints. This printer is priced at Php8,995.

Aside from PIXMA Ink Efficient E560, the other Wi-Fi printers are PIXMA MG5570 and PIXMA iP8770. MG5570 is an advanced all-in-one printer with Wi-Fi and Cloud Printing Solutions while iP8770 is a premium single-function photo printer with Wi-Fi support, cloud printing features and six individual inks that can print up to A3+ size.

In addition to the standard Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Photo Black set, the printer comes with Gray ink to ensure quality and consistency of monochrome prints, provides a stable Gray balance and reduces graininess in lighter areas of images. iP8770 is ideal for modern wireless-enabled environments, even for design agencies where printing resources are often shared among several users.

The PIXMA MG5570 sells at a price of P7,495 while PIXMA iP8770 retails at P16,995.
